The last few years, Xasthur have released album after album without any break and is becoming more and more popular and well liked amongst black metal fans by everyday that passes.
On one side of the spectrum, it's good to see a band is active and is constantly releasing new material, it shows the band's devotion to the music they play and will probably also please their fans, but on other hand, a problem that might occur is that you can run out of ideas. Xasthur is a band that have not fallen into this mud, yet, and each one of their releases still have something interesting to offer, but they still must be very careful to not become a victim of this problem because I can already hear that some of their songs have a very similar structure and sometimes it appears to me that some of their riffs get repeated too often.
Overall, the album has a very depressive and melancholic feeling to it (just like the previous releases) and the songs are mostly mid-tempo and sometimes pretty slow too. I think that the atmosphere on this album is slightly different compared to the other releases by Xasthur, it is almost like it has some form of "droning" energy to it, as if Malefic (the only member of the band) grabs us and wants to pull us down to his misanthropic world, surrounded by depression and disgust. In order to understand this album, you must let go and fall into Malefic´s dark and cold chamber, but if you resist, you will not enjoy/understand this album and all you hear will just be a bunch of noises you can not understand.
So far, Xasthur has done very well and this album totally satisfied me. This is something for the cold-hearted fans of suicidal black or extreme metal in general. |

| I must agree that this is a great album. I've been listening to it on my computer for some time and I just got a hard copy at Christmas, and I plan to listen to it in its purest form in the future. |

As always, atmosphere is everything... and almost perfect in this album. |
