New-School Thrash Metal?

This is turning to be a year of surprises in metal, when I thought I knew all the good bands in Metal, always comes one that surprises me and makes me recover some faith in our beloved music.

The subject of analysis today is Contradiction and their (killer) new album entitled "Voice Of Hatred". The band is playing Old-School Thrash Metal with some modern elements here and there. Don't be confused, this album is not a nod to the Old-School, this guys are Old-School! They've been around since 1989, and released 3 full-lengths before this one. Is sad that they didn't got the proper promotion and management back then, but now with Armageddon Music as a label, they intend to change that.

The album is filled to the brim with awesome riffs, catchy songs and amazing song-writing! Nothing technical, just Thrash! Picture some Bay Area Thrash mixed with subtle Metalcore elements, yeah, I know this is a major set back for a lot of you, but trust me, this sounds like Thrash, not like Metalcore.

Kudos for vocalist Oliver Lux who handles the vocals splendidly, he can be aggressive and in some parts he can be melancholic too. I must mention also the simplistic and plain boring cover art, not exactly an eye-catcher to be honest.

While not all songs are amazing, it sure has some killer tracks! The opener "Break The Oath" is a powerful songs with the word HEADBANG! written all over. Other killer songs are "Nation Of Fear", "Hate Patrol" and "Arguments".

This is an album with most of the cool elements of Old-School Thrash Metal, plus new features like a crystal clear production, some modern sounding elements and influences taken from "newer" genres. Is a revamped version of the Bay Area material, Old-School Thrash Metal turned New-School!
