Thrash Metal is dead by now? Metallica released St. Anger, Slayer became plain and now all we have left is "Carnal Forge" and maybe "The Haunted"? Not true, there is another band with Thrash riffs, Thrash beats and Thrash attitude wrapping their music, they are unknown to many, in fact this is the first time I ever hear this name?"Piraña" (Spanish word for Piranha), this is some strong Old School Thrash music with incredible surroundings and awesome execution.

These guys really know how to open an album; the first track blew me away devastatingly with the catchiest riffs I've heard in months, both, the first and the second tracks, are overwhelming, pure aggression drilling your brain at 100mph. The rest of the album is still very decent, in fact the last track sounds a lot like "Cemetery Gates" (Pantera), but those openers are just amazingly well accomplished.

This album will suit everyone into Thrash Metal; thankfully this is not another pseudo-metal release often known as post-thrash or "Lamb Of God", this is straight Thrash no strings attached, a lot of the old school riffs, many blast-beats, the traditional weird ballad, the shrieked/clean vocalizations, etc. This release has everything you could ask for in the genre.

Now the turn-offs, the production is really muddy and even bad in some songs, at times the instruments blow the vocals away, and sometimes the vocals sound way higher than the backgrounds, so a bad mark in the production. The other turn-off comes in the lyrical content, the words are actually plain and even childish, nothing impressive or remarkable, I can hear that the band dominates the songwriting musically, so, some deeper or more interesting words would have been way better.

I say give this one a try, I'm almost sure you'll love "Piraña Attack" to the bone, and if you don't, at least I'm positive you won't be disappointed, this is a really good release, bad news though, it's really hard to find, but it's available on the internet (in their label or in their site) so find it, buy it, enjoy it.
