Good? Bad?

Never trust band with a interrogation mark (?) in the band name, the chances you're going to get straight-forward music are quite rare. My theory comes to life once more again with this release, Light? Is a unipersonal project of Eugeny Churkin and some session vocalists. The style, very hard to define because there are mixes of almost everything in here.

You have Doom, Death, Black and Traditional Metal for starters, then you have acoustic passages, blues/rock arrangements, ambient and keyboard-driven sections. You have also clear male singing, whispers, growls and shrieks. You practically have it all in one release, sadly it doesn't work that well as you might imagine.

The album starts with 2 tracks filled with ambient stuff, moody atmosphere, keyboards and so, Then the first real song "Feeling The Pain Of Loss" showcases a mix between Black Metal, Doom Metal and some Folk elements, while shrieks are more than acceptable, the clean voice is quite annoying, too weepy for my tastes.

There are a few surprises though, the awesome semi-acoustic track "I Am Waiting For The Sun" deserves to be mentioned, the Death growls from "They-Tears" reminded me of some Old-school Death Metal bands, and the blues/acoustic arrangements from "They-Pain" are more than welcome, (you got to love those wah-wah guitars).

"Tears of Emptiness" is a bow to the Hard Rock/Glam scene, is a cool yet short song filled with energetic guitar solos and catchy drums. Sadly is ruined when the next track is completely performed by the guy that does the clean singing.

The idea is not bad at all, the music is diverse, I can't complain, but as a whole the project doesn't convince me, my advice? Hire another vocalist, and focus to develop a better sound (including the production, which is below average) and lower on the influences, too much of everything can be confusing.
