After having suffered from a broken ankle while performing live with the Backyard Babies, Michael Monroe started writing new material for his new album, stronger than ever during 1999 with a new record deal with the strong SPV Records, a deal signed with the help of his really good friend and personal manager for many years, Jude Wilder. Monroe's new effort during 1999 was "Life Gets You Dirty" and I really can't find a better title for this work because it's glam, sleazy, dirty and rock n' roll all the way, but I think Michael had always offered quality glam music so as to please our ears with the most beautiful tunes.

This album consists of 13 compositions, an album composed by Monroe and Wilder in which they pour their souls musically and lyrically except for one song, the cover on "Little Troublemaker". Monroe, after the challenge of the really good "Peace Of Mind", performs for one more time, except for the vocals, the saxophone and the harmonica that always does, the piano and the guitars and he shows his talent once again as a multi-organist. Jude Wilder also features on this album with her backing vocals, they are not so vivid, but they do exist and their slight presence enriches the sound of the album.

The guitar work is exceptional for one more time, like it has to be and like it has always been on every Hanoi Rocks or Michael Monroe album. The riffing that has its origin in 70s glam acts like Dead Boys and New York Dolls, without being afraid to sound heavier, is just wonderful and utterly inspired and when it turns to really good-sounding solos it makes the composition more affected and rolling. Of course we shouldn't forget the more emotional guitar passages that are present and shouldn't be missing, evoking a more heart-felt feeling in the air! The rhythm section lends that appropriate groove glam needs to roll all the way and the piano ala 70s glam punk rock, the sensational sound of the saxophone and the naughty interpretation of the harmonica lend another air to Monroe's compositions! Michael's vocal interpretation is fabulous and he proves for one more time the grandeur of his vocal talent! Quality dirty rock voice with its more emotional moments, a voice that you really can't forget once you listen to him interpreting, pleasing your ears to the 100%!

Almost every composition of "Life Gets You Dirty" works as a highlight simply because Monroe and Wilder poured themselves in the compositions in such an unerring and pure way. The more emotional "What's With The World" and "Since When Did You Care?" or the groovy and rolling "Little Troublemaker", the renowned Hanoi Rocks hymn "Self Destruction Blues", "If The World Don't Want Me", "Just Because You're Paranoid" and "Always Never Again" will definitely rock your universe one way or another!

Right because "life gets you dirty" do yourself a favor and get dirty on life with this album!

"If the world don't want me then i don't want the world!"
