2006 it's the year of Death Metal and we all know it; we've been bombarded by the almighty Suffocation, by the violent Vader, by Dismember. Entombed, Amon Amarth, Sinister, Fleshless?the list just goes on and on and still there are a lot of releases waiting to see the light. Indeed this is a great year for Death Metallers?but why nobody is looking in the underground? Young bands have their guts too you know? And I happen to be listening to one of them, the band's called Moulded Flesh

"In The Hands of Evil" is one of the most aggressive releases this year; this band creates straightforward Death Metal while adding catchy riffs and intricate structures; the whole album has an ascending vibe towards the music, it's maybe not as prodigious as those Technical bands out there, but sure these guys know how to exploit their instruments greatly. The songwriting has something that most Death Metal bands forget just for the sake of being as brutal as the day is long, this feature is called "variety", Moulded Flesh has plenty of it and in the end they sound fresh and incredibly original.

Every single track in this record has something with a lot of weight, whether be the impressive Bass-lines (here you'll find one hell of a bassist let me tell you), the catchy riffing or the good soloing, in the end you'll found yourself wanting more and more of it. Yes, the album is still not perfect, after all this is their debut album?one of the greatest debuts I've heard but a debut album none the less?so, the production is not really clean, the mix sounds dry and almost feeble giving the album a weak approach of course (too bad because their music is really incredible). The drumming is another turn-off, it's rigid and it doesn't flows smoothly throughout the tracks as the other instruments, this gives an amateurish feeling in the patter. That's about it; the other things are simply astonishing.

Then I say great! Let's add another amazing album to this year's list, Moulded Flesh is still no competition against the big names like the ones mentioned in the first paragraph?but I'm sure of one thing, while everyone is all excited about the new Cannibal Corpse album I'll be in a corner enjoying the greatness of one of the most underrated bands I've heard this year.
