A metal band from Portugal isn't something you see every day...and of course Moonspell is already a band with a reputation, a band that commands respect! You cannot mention gothic or doom metal without naming Moonspell, that's for sure!
For the following review we have to go back in time...

The Wolfheart is my one and only Moonspell album I have in my collection for the moment and to come straight at the point, it is a tremendous one! This Portuguese gothic/doom metal band or as we used to call it 'dark metal' has a great ability of combining external instruments with 'metal? and other rhythmical music styles.
When I think about that style I always thought about long instrumental, sometimes boring parts, Wolfheart doesn't have that...maybe that's also a disadvantage because the album is way to short for such a masterpiece and definitely for a band like Moonspell who maybe were in one's infancy but even then...they already radiate a certain experience of musical talent - even back in 1995 - that can create more then it holds, they only didn't knew it back then I suppose.
The production is great! Nothing more to say about it, all instruments reach their wanted level
On the other hand, the drums aren't so good as they supposed to be, not that it effects the album that much but if you pay close attention to it, in my opinion the drums don't match the music here, I know drums in this style aren't as important as in death or black metal but that doesn't mean they can't be good!
After all, the Wolfheart rocks! An album of quality, a musical gift that builds itself up to a certain level of eruption, starting with a lingering simple melody - Wolfshade - to a powerful Vampiria!

Whipping melodies, beautiful flute sounds, female vocals and the combination of slow doom with mid-tempo harsh vocals put the songs together like glue on an album that created its own style, so compelling.
So beautiful with lyrics who take you within their dreams of vampires and erotic alchemy, a nightmare of dream and drama...A classical album but not perfect, when the last song end I had the feeling it may have to have a little bit more but Moonspell made allot more then just the Wolfheart.
