Last Souls is a young Italian combo, "Light" is already their 3rd demo. I think that the band should try to do a first album now, even self-produced one, but well whatever let's talk a bit about this last release, something extremely complex not so easy of access but really interesting on a side.

The music of Last Souls is not so common and not so easy to "understand". Actually, the band plays a really dark and extreme Progressive Metal. Between Death and Black; Heavy and then Prog Metal, "Light" is a uncommon release which will probably be a bit disturbing for some of you. The songs are long (7 - 8 minutes in general) but a lot more complex than the ones of Opeth for example, though it's also a bit messy and that's probably the principal problem of the band.

The idea is not bad at all, I mean that it's cool to do extreme Progressive Metal, at least it doesn't follow the trend of all the young bands who only want to play Gothenburg Death but on the other hand it's also extremely tricky to do Progressive Metal and I don't think that it's so easy to mix it with Extreme Metal. At the end, the idea is really good but it's lacking of structure and it goes in a dozen of directions. It's not so easy to "understand" the song, to follow them and it can be a bit boring. But, I say it again, it's a matter of time I think because Last Souls seems to be a good band and I'm quite sure that they will be able to perfectly do this mix with some more time.

Despite the fact that "Light" can be a bit messy, Last Souls released an interesting demo, something unconventional and original. It was not so easy to do it well simply because it's not easy to produce such kind of music but, I believe in the potential of the band. Let's hope that they will be able to release their first album soon and remove some complex parts in their songs, it could be something really nice.
