Do you like Thrash Metal with modern sonorities? Do you like "Power" Thrash a la Pantera or Machine Head? If yes, then you'll probably like the new album of the Canadian combo Shatterpoint. After a nice first album Consequences (released in 2004) which was more like an EP than anything else actually, the band final has a real full length album "Dead Precedence". With some touches a la Annihilator mixed with modern Thrash, "Dead Precedence" is a real "in your face" album full of great riffs and cool catchy songs. Definitely, this is something for the thrashers?

Shatterpoint is a bit like a synonym of "killer riffs" and if it was already possible to find great guitars riffs on the first release, I can tell you that it's still the same thing on the new album. The guys of Shatterpoint just know how to write songs with perfect melodies and catchy choruses though, the music is Thrash and it doesn't lack of violence and power which means that it will be something perfect to headbang. A bit like with the new Annihilator, Shatterpoint plays a mix of old school Thrash with modern sonorities and yes that's right, we can find some commercial choruses sometime too. It's accessible on a side but for sure we're not in front of Slayer or Exodus, this is not a pure Thrash band too but something a bit like Pantera or the new Machine Head.

"Dead Precedence" is a good album with some killer songs like "Thorn Inside" or "Murder For Hire". The production is really good with a nice booklet and with a really nice recording. All in all, "Dead Precedence" doesn't lack of anything and it's hard to find some bad points on the release but yes, I say it again, if you want to like this CD, you'll have to accept the fact that it's not some "old school" Thrash and that the album even flirts sometime with Metalcore. Nonetheless, its anger and the violence of the riffs are really good so if you want a good old album of modern Thrash this is something for you.

"Dead Precedence" is a nice confirmation of the potential of this cool combo from Canada, Shatterpoint. Their new release is just highly recommended if you want some music to headbang like a crazy Metalhead. A cool confirmation for a really promising combo.

Excellent album though I think I like the previous EP better. Maybe that's just because I'm more used to it. This band definitely sounds a lot like modern Annihilator, only slightly less commercial IMO. They don't reach the amazing level of catchiness of the riffs but this album is, I think, much more enjoyable than the latest Annihilator (which I'm not too fond of).

Mr. Noise
Haven't heard this particular album but I own their first EP. They sent it to me, for free.

Anyway, it's a good slab of Thrash metal with different influences. Check them out!
