Martyr is a band you could say I'm fairly new to. I've only know them for about six months now. "Warp Zone" was the first album of theirs I heard. A good introduction to say the least.
Here on Metal Storm, Martyr is labelled as Technical Death Metal. One listen through one of their albums quickly shows why. These guys are top-notch musicians. Every member plays his part extremely well, and that's quite a feat considering the difficulty of their music. The songs tend to shift tempo from moderate to fast, and never become a bore. Each instrument is clear and balances well with the others.
The vocal style on this album isn't really something I'm used to, but it works well with the music. They're almost thrash-like vocals. Not really my favourite style, but easily overlooked (The lyrics are an interesting read too). The guitars are, to simply put it, amazing. The riffs are fast, furious and at certain times, heavy. There are solo's littered throughout the album, and are equally impressive. The bass pounds along with the guitars, give the music a nice, solid sound. The drums, while not mind-blowingly fast, are also well done. He's a solid drummer and does his part. Can't complain there.
So, if you're new to the Technical Death scene, or are looking for an album with great musicianship, Warp Zone is an album that well satisfy your needs, and then some. Job well done Martyr, job well done.

| This album is well made indeed, I like it a lot. It has a certain "square" feeling that I enjoy |
