A blasphemous dose of the most violent Death Metal on Earth!
At least for me it is, I remember reviewing "Bleeding The False" some years ago and I can't think of a better way to continue with the lethal dosage than "Rise To Dominate." Aeon already had some surprising features in their making, now they bludgeoned their songwriting and managed to create a very uplifting record with technical overtones and insanely crushing music.
It seems the best way to "evolve" in Death Metal nowadays is to bring complexity and that "Tech-Death" twist everyone seems to love, fortunately Aeon doesn't go entirely with the flow... They do add intricate solos and patterns but their main structure is still the same old fist, Death Metal with long passages and mid-paced breakdowns. Their music is now more digestible than what we heard in their debut album - a good thing because too much snare drum blasting and hellish noise oftenly becomes repetitive and tedious. They do make it up with super-catchy riffs and intese hooks that instantly add replay values for the entire CD.
The well crafted booklet and the gloomy imagery fits perfectly with the whole concept. I'm not a huge fan of Deicide-like lyrics though, I think there are better or at least more original forms of words than just talking about how Satan rocks and the other guy doesn't. It takes but one listen to songs like "House Of Greed," "Living Sin" or "There Will Be No Heaven For Me" to forget about the wearisome lyricist, the music is all that matters this time and the band actually does one hell of a good job.
I can easily recommend this album to everyone into Death Metal, it's always great to find a release as tight and as straight as "Rise To Dominate." A very entertaining album that's for sure, and one of 2007's bests.
Best Tracks: I eagerly encourage everyone to hear the entire set.
