"Descend" is the new album of the Finish dudes of My Shameful. If you were into that band before this new release, I must tell you that you'll maybe be a bit disturbed by their new sound. Now, My Shameful is definitely more "Metal" and after all that's probably not a bad thing.

If on the previous album of the band, "The Return To Nothing", it was possible to hear keyboards, cellos and even some female vocals sometime, it will be totally different on the new album of My Shameful. Definitely the band tried to become more "true" if I can use this word and they have managed to do it. On "Descend", the music of My Shameful is a lot more basic and simple which doesn't mean that the band publishes something bad or easy, no My Shameful now plays something which can be compared to the old My Dying Bride or even to the old Paradise Lost (without its speed of course) if we talk about Death Metal and Gothic stuff. This is real Doom Death Metal, this is really slow and dark, but also really conventional. Really the songs of this new album are all more than correct but I cannot say that we're swimming in the pool of originality here. One more time we're in front of a good album of Doom Metal but which is totally common and at thousands miles of Mar De Grises's music for example. Sure if you like Doom Death Metal you'll like to listen to "Descend" but if you're looking for originality don't expect anything special with this release.

The production of the release is also a bit average. The sound is so-so, the vocals are a bit monotonous sometime and the cover is simple as hell. Well, it's not important reproaches too, I really believe that the people who like to listen Doom Metal will not really care of such little problems but be aware that "Descend" is not a perfect album. Though on the other hand I like the fact that the band tried to do something old school, it's well done in the end and just lacks a bit of craziness in the writings.

"Descend" is not perfect but if you're looking for good Death Doom Metal I think that you can go with this release. My Shameful will maybe have to work a bit on their future compositions because it's still possible to plays Doom Death with something special in it (check Mourning Beloveth's discography and you'll see what I mean). Don't forget this name if you like Doom, I think that the band is able to do great things in the future (I'm not saying here that "Descend" is bad, but the band can be better!), we will see if it will happen.

Good album.

One point though, Jeff. IMO it wrong to call My Shameful "Finnish dudes" since only ONE band member is Finnish and one is from the US and two from Germany. It seem My Shameful is more German than Finnish

Decent album, i like what Jean Francoise said, each album is a bit weird, diferent as whole funeral doom genre, you know how it sounds, and never know how will sound new bands or new albums,
