"Detaching From Humans" is the first full-length of the Italian madmen StormFrost. Actually they only wrote six new songs, and added their 2006 demo "Sons Of The Hate" to that and released it as a full-length. Well, does not really matter, what matters is that this full-length consists of eleven tracks, varying from interesting and very strong to cheesy and disappointing.

Opener "War Of The Winter's Demons" is a downright continuation of albums such as "Sventevith" and "Panzer Division Marduk", by respectively Behemoth and Marduk. Relentless, fast Black metal without mercy. And while the first track does it with convincing brutality, the second song was already less powerful. Luckily, they also seem to have realised that endlessly blasting in the same monotone style is passé. By incorporating a couple of instrumentals into their sound they give the listener a few breaths of air.

After the first six "regular" tracks, the songs from the earlier recorded demo appear. On these last songs they have dropped the pace and blended a few doomy riffs into their thrashing assault, resulting in much more captivating songs. It is a shame they apparently have chosen to follow the generic Marduk-path.

The downside are the sometimes ridiculous vocals, such as the 'hateful speech' "You will not understand, you dirty, stupid humans" rasped by someone who sounds like Shagrath on one of his worst days. Seriously, please leave those out next time. But since they are a relatively new band, I am able to forgive them such foolish mistakes. I just hope they will decide to continue in a slower-paced doomy/black direction, cause it never hurts to have more of those.
