01. World Of Make Believe
Dutch symphonic/gothic metal band Within Temptation has with their second album, Mother Earth, definitely became one of the most popular bands in their country and in the rest of Europe also. This album contains 10 songs plus some bonus stuff.
In their music is, in my opinion, their main speciality the orchestral sound which is included in almost every song on this album. When I listened to this album for the first time, I got the feeling that the whole orchestra stands behind the band. Generally I quite like symphonic parts in metal music, but not too exaggerated. If I continue, the guitars on the album are mostly in the background, taking care of the rythm, which is quite slow and not too complicated. I could say the same thing for the drums, without any double-bass beats of course.
One of the reasons why I like this album pretty much and the band generally is the female singer of the band Sharon den Adel. With her gentle and also strong voice I would definitely rate it as one of the female most ''angelic'' vocals in the rock/metal scene. I think that combination of her voice, orchestral/symphonic sound and a little bit harder guitar riffs makes songs like ''Ice Queen'', ''Mother Earth'', ''Deciever Of Fools'' and ''Dark Wings'' to sound really good. On ballads ''Our Farewell'', ''Never-Ending Story'', ''Perfect Harmony'' are the keyboards Sharon's main attender. My favourite songs out of those are Deciever Of Fools, Ice Qeen and Dark Wings.
The ''Mother Earth'' album is certainly an great acquisition for the symphonic/goth metal music, so if you like this kind of music you have to listen to it. Comparing to all other released albums of the band, this one gets to the top of the all releases.

| Maybe their best album! Surely a great one! Amazing songs, amazing Sharon... Ice Queen, Mother Earth, Deceiver Of Fools and The Promise are masterpieces IMO |

| Appreciation of Nature is a theme i like in songs which seems to be present in Mother Earth, In Perfect Harmony, Never-ending Story, Ice Queen,... More or less. |
