Morgion is a Doom Metal band that was formed in 1990 and released two critically acclaimed albums under Relapse records, after that, the band went on hiatus for a period of several years, and many fans of the band, still impressed with their 1999 release "Solinari" feared the worst. Morgion was no more.

Although a separation was never confirmed, many thought that a new Morgion album wouldn't be possible, until this year, when North American label Dark Symphonies released Morgion's third effort "Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth".

If you let me, I'll tell you about my "special" relationship with the label, for almost a year I asked Metal Mike from the label to send me some promotional Cd's to work with, I bugged him so much, that he finally agreed to send me a promo of this, their latest release. I mailed him on weekly basis, I begged, I demanded, I asked, but at last I'm very happy to say that Dark Symphonies is part of the Metal Storm family? it just makes me wanna cry!

Anyway, enough of my worthless chit chat. Damn this is a good album! I must confess that I've never heard the band before, but I'm surprised with the quality of the music, the textures, the moods, all the emotions etched in each song express so much?

The band relies in great pounding, grandiose riffing, grunts and a lot of clean vocals, acoustic moments are also part of the wide array of elements used to create this masterpiece. Songs are lengthy, the album clocks more than an hour, but it flows so perfectly with each mood of every song that the chances that you'll be bored are almost impossible.

Songs like "A Slow Succumbing" "Ebb Tide" and "She, The Master Covets" are truly Doom masterpieces, that will darken the lightest day.
One of the great things about his album is the professionalism behind every aspect of the release. The musicianship and creativeness in songwriting is excellent, the production is top-notch, every instruments sounds crystal clear, the artwork and whole design concept is brilliant, I cannot think of another cover art that would express so perfectly the mood of the album in such a perfect way.

In a nutshell, this album is one the best, if not the best Doom Metal album of the year (in five months we'll know that) until then, any decent Doom Metal fan MUST get this album, because this one is going on my top ten list at the end of the year.

I havent had a chance yet to get my ears on this one (hard to find a copy).
How does it compare to their first two albums?
I like Solinari and I totally adore Among majestic ruin.
Do you think there is no way around Cloaked by ages for me?
