Every new Dismember albums is like a real event, and of course the release of "Where Ironcrosses Grow" follows the rule. But now, we must know if the band through this new album knew how to do something in the vein of their precedents releases. Well, my feeling is that I'm not really sure of it because, you could see it when you'll listen this new album, the band putted some water in its wine. Yes the true fans of classic old school Swedish Death Metal could be disappointed by this album and at the opposite the ones who like a lot of melodies in Death metal could certainly be dazzle of this cd. In one word it's a lot more melodic now and yeah believe me [and it's not a joke] for some parts in the music we are more near of? Iron Maiden?than Entombed?

"Where Ironcrosses Grow" is not a bad album at the opposite, but this new Dismember will certainly disturbed a bit the old fans of the band. Of course there is always the great voice of Mr Matti Karki and believe me that he is always very good to sing Death Metal with his particular voice. Same for the guitars or the drums which are also very present and damn efficient. The sound of the album is for a majority of the tracks very strong and heavy, yeah don't worry it's always Death Metal, but there is something new in the way of written of the band. It's more and more melodic and sometime this is really funny because some solo and riffs [the ones on Tragedy of the Faithful are certainly the better examples] could be done by our favourite English Heavy Metallers of Iron Maiden?
At the end the songs are catchy and well done but it's weird because sometime [excepted for the voice of Matti] you have the strange feeling that the music sound like Dismember but that it's maybe not the band.
Anyway personally I can understand that some people will be disappointed by this new album due to this numerous changing but is it really bad? I mean that it's normal for a band who played its music during 15 years to do some changes in its style. Plus I said it again it's always true Swedish Death Metal don't worry, but it's just maybe a bit cool, and personally [it must come by the fact that I listen to a lot of Melodic music in any styles] I like this album anyway. This is catchy and I'm sure that it could be a good solution for you to start to listen to this band through this new release.
There is two bad points for me however, the production which is not good. The sound could be better and this band deserve something better really. This is a point that should be change for the next album because this is not terrible but this kind of sound is not for a band with the standing of Dismember. Second bad point the length of the album? Only 38 mins for 10 tracks?. Oki I know a lot of Death Metal bands do that but well when we buy a cd we want more than 38 mins of music and songs with a duration of more than 2:30 - 3mins?

This album will have two publics I think. The ones who want the real Dismember and who could be disappointed by "Where Ironcrosses Grow" [and I'm not sure of that?] and the ones who like Melodic Death metal who will certainly like this new release. Personally I find it good however and I suppose that some guys will follow my opinion. It could be better maybe yes, but this well done and pleasant to listen to then I think that you could try "Where Ironcrosses Grow"?

Everything he doesn't like is metalcore. Britney Spears, Elton John, Michael Moore, and green beans are also metalcore, in case you guys didn't know.

Good point, it would be lingual butchery on an inhumane scale.

Jeff did almost 1,200 reviews, about 700 more than our second most prolific writer... he didn't have time to pursue a English Creative Writing degree, he was too busy tossing horns and pounding out reviews.

I guess the solos are very Melodic, but overall this album is less so than let's say, Death Metal or Hate Campaign.

This review hasn't aged very well. This album is a classic in 2022 and it's death metal as the fuck. This catchy melody is the indisputable hallmark of dismember that influenced a lot f bandas during XXI century as LIK, the Crown etc..
