Dark Vision are no newcomers, as they are 12 years old. However, this new, self-produced EP is presented as their 'rebirth', so let's see...

This is a 5-tracks affair, including a short and noisy, but subdued, intro. Otherwise, the choice weapon of these guys is some kind of mix of black and death metal - more black than death on the whole - with a prominent 'old school' feeling. They did, however, incorporate a very little bit of electronic samples in their stuff (at the end of Warpulse for example - nice song, by the way).

The sound is quite raw and dirty, but that's clearly not a bad choice considering the style played; it's good enough to keep the energy and dynamics, however the vocals are quite muted.

But, er, well... I was not really convinced by this release. While it has its good moments and can be interesting at time, I found it quite boring even if it's only 16 minutes long. They don't lack good ideas, as there are good riffs and breaks, but it sadly also sounds uninspired sometimes (Yearning Grotesque). Also, it's a bit sad for a 'rebirth' that the best song of the lot (Signs From Fallen Stars) is also the oldest, and a really good piece of melodic black metal.

So no, it's not bad, but not great either. But fans of old-school extreme metal should keep an eye on this band anyway, as Bestial Remedy is only an EP, and as such maybe only a mere shade of the album to come?
