It finally arrived. Mercury Rain debut album Dark Waters, my first thought was "really nice cover art" and is it, very well done, that's a good start for any band beginning a career, since many people buy albums based on the cover art.

The band categorizes themselves as Power Metal, but their music have a lot of Gothic Metal elements, the beautiful voice of Sonia Porzier, dark keyboards here and there, and so on, so let's set for the record that we are hearing Gothic Power Metal here.

After a dark keyboard intro, the first track "Broella" kicks in with powerful guitars, double bass and a very catchy chorus, this one is a killer track, other stand out track is "The Chosen One" this one is more in-your-face power metal, killer drumming on this one! "The Bride Of the dark" features, great riffing, amazing guitar solo and again, a catchy chorus.

Had a little problem with the vocals, they have little diversity, they're all the same, don't get me wrong Sonia Porzier has a great voice, but a touch of aggression would really spice things up.

One question pops out? Why this band is unsigned? The band is showing real talent here, with the proper support this band could be big. Is not a perfect production, has some minor flaws here and there, but then again, is the first full-length debut of the band. One more thing to the band: if you promote yourselves as Gothic Power metal, you would get much more attention, than promoting as plain Power Metal. In a scene so over saturated as the Power Metal one, is good to know a band that throws something new in the mix.
