Subrosa

With Rebecca Vernon, Sarah Pendleton, Kim Pack, Christian Creek

Back in April, Subrosa did a short tour of a few US cities while in the middle of recording their newest album. I had the privilege of meeting the band for a long interview and chat where we discussed their recording of and what to expect from the upcoming album, their incredible sources of lyrical inspiration, and much more. We started with what ended up being quite an in-depth retrospective on the band's history. I wanted to hear their story as well as learn about the Salt Lake City metal scene, of which I knew very little about. This chat is with the whole band minus their drummer Andy, who had run back to the van to grab some supplies. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=677>Read more...

Ensiferum

With Sami Hinkka

Ensiferum, who headlined the recent Paganfest here in North America, had their first appearance in Denver after an almost five year hiatus. Before the show we had a nice little chat with bassist Sami Hinkka but unfortunately the location we selected was not available and we ended up staying inside the venue right after doors opened. My apologies for the background noise. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=676>Read more...

Sonata Arctica

With Tony Kakko

About to kick of a mini four day UK tour to close the Stones Grow Her Name cycle, I got the chance to talk to Sonata Arctica frontman Tony Kakko about the band's evolution, life on the road, and what the future holds. Watch the video below to see how the chat went! <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=674>Read more...

Kamelot

With Thomas Youngblood

Power metal legends Kamelot won 2 Metal Storm Awards this year, both for Power Metal Album of the Year and Best Video. Their wins reminded us... it's been a while since we talked to these guys! I had an email conversation with guitarist, band founder, and composer Thomas Youngblood; one thing we talked about was composing Silverthorn, as well as why it differs in style from their previous album Poetry For The Poisoned, which received mixed reviews from fans (though THIS fan loved it). <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=673>Read more...

Soilwork

With Dirk Verbeuren

Soilwork hit Seattle a few days ago on their North American tour with Jeff Loomis and Blackguard. I had a great chat with drummer extraordinaire Dirk Verbeuren before the show; some topics included Soilwork's progression, recording their double album The Living Infinite, plans for his other bands Scarve and Bent Sea, why he loves teaching drums, and what sorts of music he'd like to play next. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=672>Read more...

Heidevolk

With Reamon Bomenbreker, Rowan Roodbaert

Paganfest USA featuring Ensiferum, Týr, Heidevolk, Trollfest and Helsótt started this past Saturday in Denver, CO at the Summit Music Hall. And while the headliner had not been to Colorado since 2008, it also was the first time EVER for Heidevolk to play on American soil. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=671>Read more...

Castle

With Mat Davis

Metal Storm Award nominees Castle are wrapping up a N. American west coast tour before heading across the pond on a pretty sweet European tour. They stopped by Seattle's Highline Bar Friday night and I had the pleasure of chatting with guitarist and founder Mat Davis before the show about his dark, slightly doomy, slightly spooky heavy metal band. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=670>Read more...

Immensity

With Leonidas Hatzimihalis

Greek newcomers Immensity are blowing up the metal scene with their demo The Lonely Aquarelle released in late 2012. This short doom record has received many positive reviews from the metal press including an honor from YOU, dear readers of Metal Storm, when you voted them Clandestine Cut Of The Year in the 2012 Metal Storm Awards. Since you liked their debut demo so much we thought it'd be a treat to get to know the band better! <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=669>Read more...

Spiritual Beggars

With Sharlee D'Angelo

Spiritual Beggars are not only releasing a new album this year, but are also celebrating their 20th Anniversary as a band. I had the opportunity to talk with bassist Sharlee D'Angelo about their new album Earth Blues, and threw in a couple of questions about his other two bands (Arch Enemy, Witchery) as well. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=668>Read more...

The Deadstation.

With Shjon Thomas, Ryan Mattheu

The Deadstation are an amazing upcoming progressive metal band reviewed by Ag Fox in the Vol.2 #7 issue of Clandestine Cuts. I've had the pleasure of talking to (well... emailing) Shjon and Ryan about their influences, writing process, plans, Facebook activity and the future of planet Earth. Enjoy! <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=666>Read more...

Royal Thunder

With Josh Weaver, Evan Diprima

Royal Thunder, the bluesy, soulful, psychedelic sludge band (or as they sometimes call their music, "post-apocalyptic blues") is currently on tour in the USA with Pallbearer and Ancient VVisdom in support of Enslaved. Monday night they stopped for an unforgettable show at The Highline in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. I met up with guitarist/founding member Josh Weaver and new drummer Evan Diprima for an interview. We couldn't find a quiet place at the club to sit and talk so after wandering around for several minutes we just stopped and stood in the small back hallway of a neighboring business. The impromptu environment made for a very fun chat! I didn't know how much time we'd have so I got right to my most pressing question. The American state of Georgia is home to the cities of Atlanta and Savannah, both of which are famous for their top notch sludge metal… <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=665>Read more...

Edge Of Attack

With Doug Jurekk Whipple, Denver Whipple

A few days ago I had a Skype interview with Jurekk Whipple (lead guitar/backing vocals) and Denver Whipple (bass), the brother/sister duo from Canadian classic power metal 5-piece Edge Of Attack. The band comes from northwest Alberta, which I found pretty fascinating. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=664>Read more...

Metal Storm was part of the inaugural Barge To Hell cruise, which took place in December 2012. As an added bonus we had the chance to talk with Andy Piller, the mastermind behind this "extreme cruising" concept. Not only did Andy organize the Barge To Hell cruise but he is also responsible for the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise. <a href="/pub/interview.php?interview_id=661>Read more...
