These as said above in my opinion, the worst most inexcuseable passed out finished covers out of the full discographies of some of my favourite artists in which some of them are known for specific styles. Yet these ones are shit. In no specific order except for remembrance.

1. Slayer - Undisputed Attitude
1996
2. Slayer - Diabolus In Musica
I completely understand when a musical group that has had many releases with same active artist at the covers later decides to have someone else give a different onlook (e.g. Larry Carroll for Slayer, or Derek Riggs) but these 2 examples prove my point on the list when the outcome goes all out the fucking window. Even a double-whammy if the album itself is shit, Mastodon's The Hunter is an example of it happening the right way.
3. Iron Maiden - Virtual XI
The classic "Edged-out" logo has been churned out instead for this puke cover...
4. Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death
They couldn't even be arsed to finish this...
5. Amon Amarth - The Crusher
At least they improved the look of their album characters later on (e.g Surtur Rising). Although this Thor has a unique, bad-ass looking Mjolinir accurate to the ancient symbol, it's ether being wielded by that bad guy from Big Trouble In Little China, or the Undertaker...
6. Children Of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet?
Look's like he's having a wank.
7. Agalloch - Pale Folklore
Pale looking indeed... Deep as the distance to where your reading this from.
8. Behemoth - Bewitching The Pomerania
Lolwut!?!
9. Behemoth - Thelema.6
Because Satanica didn't have a cool enough cover of Nergal evolving into Rhydon.
10. Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstasy
Perhaps the first ever robot-sex album art.
11. Black Sabbath - Never Say Die
With a title like that, that's really asking for a tombstone...
12. Black Sabbath - Born Again
The most remnant cult-figure of bands with great album covers and even greater albums and become the primal example of the opposite of that.
13. Black Sabbath - Seventh Star
Creative block eh?
14. Black Sabbath - Forbidden
After the beautifully symbolic cover of Cross Purposes, you'd think there would be more sense...
15. Dio - Sacred Heart
Maybe it's an Art Nouveau attempt? But that's one of the most unprofessionally BAD looking dragon's I've seen.
16. Dio - Strange Highways
1994
17. Dio - Angry Machines
This was from the same man who made the uncomfortably yet-cool image of demon's torturing priests. Leave machines to H.R. Giger and the Stan Winston studio I'd advise...
18. Metallica - Load
Why they never used Andres Serrano's "Pisschrist" I'll never know; it was apparently Lars' and Kirk's idea but who cares... James hate's the sperm and blood out of it!
19. Metallica - St. Anger
20. Metallica - Lulu
Looks like a mannequin that got fucked over by ether Dennis Raider or Peter Sutcliffe and when they had enough sent the limbs to be used for James' personal furniture carpenter.
21. Bathory - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
Yes it's all "old-school" raw, but still could have been improvised as a cover figure ALOT.
22. Bathory - Octagon
23. Dissection - Reinkaos
They decided to grab an elder logo that was popularised by Slipknot... Instead of sticking to Kristian Wåhlin's great hands Jon got too busy with his.
24. Exodus - Impact Is Imminent
Might as well had gone "all the way" out by having in the far corner Steven Spielberg sitting in his chair filiming with his crew...
25. Exodus - Force Of Habit
Certanlly seemed like a habit Exodus were having up to this point in their career, when they realized theres too many fucking covers with themselves on there. A Jackson Pollock painting would have been a sparking niche!
26. Fear Factory - Digimortal
I love how Fear Factory have 'simple' placed album covers although this one is just a fucking stop sign...
27. Sepultura - Nation
Sepultura at their driest, reflected by a dry cover. How I miss Michael Whelan doing cover art SO Much....
28. Anthrax - State Of Euphoria
DRINK!
29. Anthrax - Stomp 442
FECK!
30. Anthrax - Volume 8 - The Threat Is Real
My arse it is!
31. Carcass - Swansong
Actually along with the album itself, this one is growing on me.
32. Immortal - Damned In Black
The only band that I can stand when it comes to having mindless album covers which are just photos of the bands themselves although this is pushing it. Weird to see some red on the cover that isn't fire in Immortal's case, yet Sons Of Northern Darkness was at least less "poserable" and more "colder". Infact, when Immortal have album art from time to time that DOSENT include them, they are modern perfection to the eye. Beautiful and stunning.
33. Hypocrisy - The Arrival
The Independence Day poster is more sinister than this...
34. In Flames - Soundtrack To Your Escape
Once again the once great album/ cover reflection on a more lesser good album. What's there to say about In Flames that hasn't been said.
35. In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose
Right into the wrong end of the 'core'.
36. Testament - Demonic
See Dissection.
37. Burzum - Dauði Baldrs
When a musical artist has a certain musical style, it also gives a sense of imagery displayed on every album art that sooner or later evolves into a certain onlook of style, that eventually bands get recognized (e.g Cathedral with Dave Patchett or Ensiferum with Kristian Wåhlin). The onlook that Burzum are on now is fine having old master paintings and a sense of colour yet this is an opposite principle for this one. Shit/Boring/Dry album = Shit/Boring/Lame album artwork. It's all about reflective, unrushed effort. By both musical artist and 'artist' artist.
38. Pantera - Projects In The Jungle
39. Pantera - Power Metal
40. Pantera - Reinventing The Steel

What about Accept- "Balls to the Wall"?

Accept normally have straight-to-the-point simple album covers that generally refelect the title - There not trying to prove anything more or less than what's said, and that's simple. Look at the lastest one.

Boring artwork that's yet to the point, yet not grossingly bad that it's not even laughable matter.

*Painting over Digimortal.

just for the fucking title of this list!
AngelofDeth - 01.03.2012 at 03:27
Hahaha good idea for this man!

Though i do like the Reinkaos cover, its basic and too the point. most of the album is about the 11 luciferian gods(i think...not sure exactly) which is represented in the 11 points of this symbol.
Amatsu Mikaboshi - 01.03.2012 at 04:13
11 Luciferian gods? Arent they supposed to be having Slipknot on their minds?

I'm not saying that all 'simple' album covers are bad, but believe it or not there ones that hit the mark ever so well, subtle and sensible and others that dissapoint for the worse. Ones I find work are like Candlemasses' self titled, With Oden On Our Side, Danzig I, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Master Of Reality, Volume 4 etc...

Because Slipknot popularised that logo did it after ALL of their great but few looking releases put Dissection in the toilet. If that 12 gods concept is right. Surely that would now make that cover look even more dissapointingly bad as something like that, not to mention Dissection's music surely must grab expression and image. Even though as reflected both in ways the album was bland.
AngelofDeth - 01.03.2012 at 04:27
Didnt even realize slipknot used that, usually just block out bands like them haha.

anyway this shit is fuckin funny man

I actually like a couple of these, but yeah. Most of these are god awful pieces of shit.
ANGEL REAPER - 18.03.2013 at 15:29
Actually Bathory's UTSOBM cover is real picture taken in some opera theater featuring one famous bodybuilder of the time.It also should included naked maidens dancing bellow but the girls got scared and never showed up.and yeah Quorton said that they make the shot during interval in one show (behind the curtains and with audience in theater) so they had only one shot and 60 sec to do it ...

Oh wow, very interesting.... I just love the cheap fact that when zoomed in, they've cut the bodybuilder's head for the goat logo infront!
