Yeah I've neglected this recently as I've been back to my home town so haven't had proper internet (and got a bit too into games but that's over with now my main PC just died). Home tomorrow so musical exploration begins anew! But yeah, cheers muchly and you scrub my back and I'll scrub yours, if you know what I mean. |

I'm actually in the U.S. at the moment so I've not been listening to much new music as well other than the accidental stumble while checking my favorite websites, I've also been buying quite a few albums I've wanted to own for a while, I'll be going back home next week though, so expect updates from my part as well. Cheers |

To be honest most of my discoveries come from Last.fm. I go to the the pages of bands I know have released good stuff this year and look at journals that people have made with "best of" lists and go through the stuff mentioned. Particularly good for non-metal stuff which is infinitely more difficult to keep tabs on. |

| Lots of good shit, especially the "The Phantom Carriage"-album. |

I actually don't use Last.fm at all, I need to learn how to though, I never bothered since I was able to discover plenty of stuff without using it, I actually knew about most of the releases on your list prior to you posting them but I never bothered to check them out until you listed them. I'm more of a zines/blog kinda guy, both for metal and non-metal. Non-metal for me includes every genre but commercial music as in the auto-tuned bullshit and cringe-inducing cacophonies. I'll look into last.fm a bit more. |

You don't even need to use Last.fm, just type in a band you know is decent and with a recent release and then just check the right hand side for journals. Blogs are great but I rarely rely on them for new stuff as a lot of them either lack descriptions or consistency or just don't update enough whereas lists can be updated with everything that's good. Once you've learned when someone has similar taste it makes ideal places to go to for new stuff. |

If you search carefully enough you're bound to find a couple of decent blogs, I'll check out Last.fm tonight. I discovered the Phantom Carriage album on one of the blogs. it was a pretty good listen, you can't expect any less than quality from the French's Screamo scene, its more on the experimental side as well, all the more reason to listen to it.
If you're not to busy you might want to check Caina'a new release "Hands that Pluck" I was surprised by how diverse it is, its a pretty long listen though, haven't quite decided how good it really is, I only gave it one listen but I have no doubt that it's quality. |

Yeah I have a few blogs in my bookmarks, a few specialise in what I like. I'm a big fan of Caina, will be checking out the new one. Shame it's his last. |

Intrigued to see some 'Krautrock' listed here, only familiar with 70's bands like Dzyan and Can, wasn't aware it was still a living genre.
Also that Hexvessel.. Psychedelic Neofolk? Really? |

Aluk Todolo are somewhat renowned for mixing krautrock with black metal; their stuff is very crunchy and noisy. That collab is less so however.
That Hexvessel is on Spotify if you have it. Very pretty music, was a nice find after some of the harsher stuff I've been listening to. |

Good choice on "The Great Old Ones" been waiting for the album before posting the album on my list (you gotta love the French BM scene), the new Arizmenda completely got off my mind I'll need to check that ASAP. I'll be looking at others on you're list as well, keep up the updates. I'll also be looking out for the new Nightbringer, the song they released was impressive. Cheers.
Also if you like weird genre transcending music, check out netra's Melancolie urbaine trip hop and Black Metal. |

It sounds like they're maturing to me, but one songs isn't enough to judge that, and I liked their last album so even if it does have the same sound I'll still enjoy it.

It's not really a rip-off, since it doesn't have that much shoegaze influence, it's atmospheric/depressive Black Metal, and it is good enough. Not a masterpiece and I agree that Infestus' releases is better. |

I'm pretty sure I've posted a couple of times the two tracks from either band that shows a remarkable (by remarkable I mean complete and utter rip-off in terms of riffs) similarity between the two. It's a matter of production and/or guitar tone, little more. If it were Killing Joke the lawyers would be on their way round as we speak. |

I guess the crappy production buried the similarities somewhat, I'll pay more attention on my next listen, since I listen to both frequently I should have noticed flagrant similarities. And How come it took you so much time to update your list ? |

Meh, to me the songs have different atmospheres. I really don't feel like holding that rip-off-thing against the band because I really enjoy their cover (let's call it that way) and the album in general is really good to me and that's pretty much the only moment in the album when it's ripp-off, the rest is more like worship.... Good worship though. Like I said before, I really don't listen to those albums in the same way so I don't bother. |

I still think you are overreacting. Maybe it's just me but the overall atmosphere is totally different, the production is also very different (crap production? I don't think so) and like I said before... the song stops being similar after 2 minutes or so. But hey, just me 2 cents. |

Love your music taste, love your list. Just noticed something I wanted to share, and I figure this is the most fitting place to do it on MS: True Widow have apparently just released an EP called I.N.O. with apparently new songs. At least they're not on the full-length of earlier this year or the debut. Spotify lists them as "EP version" but I guess that's just some mistake, since I couldn't find any "LP versions" anywhere.
Not as good as As High As... judging by first listen, but worth noting anyhow. |

Thank you muchly squire, I appreciate it. Playing the True Widow right now, it sounds rather nice thus far. Cheers for the heads up. Don't suppose you have lists like this planned, would very much like to see it? |
|
|
|
| Well I do keep a list on RYM and in an .odt file on my computer. I guess I could transfer it to MS too, it's just that it doesn't have awfully lot of metal in it so I'm not sure I have a lot to offer to the local demographic. But yeah, I just discovered we even had a Lists section (didn't have one back in the day when I was active), so I will probably start working on one soon. I can't resist the opportunity to make yet another list. >_> |
|
|
|
| To be honest there are so many lists that are identical each with the same sets of bands on people might even appreciate something outside the norm. I certainly would as I find it harder to track down non-metal stuff. |
|
|
|
Simply copy-pasting and making minor edits was faster than I thought. Didn't take two hours. It's in my profile now, I guess it won't appear on this forum unless it's commented on.
Off the top of my head from that list, I could recommend Giles Corey, Eleanoora Rosenholm, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter, Kreng and Colin Stetson; random albums from random genres, but you might like them. They're all pretty dark and moody in their own ways. But anyway, enough about me. Gonna go look for those Robedoor records you mentioned, I didn't know they had released anything this year. |

I was overreacting. The production isn't as crappy as made it out to be, but the first 2 minutes being the same is way more than I can tolerate any more than that and it would be beyond ridiculous. I would sue their ass shut all the same. The rest of the album is pretty good though, so I'll just block the first 2 minutes somehow. Cheers. |
