This list could have included a bit more bands and more great albums.
Here I see tendency towards progressive metal, prog black and prog power with some heavy interspersed with some heavy metal titles.
Not bad, but I think it should be reconsidered.
Anyway, since you like these bands, go for it

In fact, six of the seven best bands of the new millennium [I'm talking about bands that have issued at least four albums in the 21st century] are progressive metal or progressive sounding : Opeth, Hammers Of Misfortune, Riverside, Nevermore, Jon Oliva's Pain, Rage.
Only Slough Feg have a molded style - old school heavy metal (with folk influences).

Well, "the best" is very subjective category. It depends on the musical taste and personal impression.
However, all those are great. Whether someone deems them best or excellent or very good, is not important.
They create superb music and it is all that matters.

Actually all lists represent someone's subjective opinion. My list too.

Mikael is very talented musician and everything that he recorded is fresh and interesting. Really there is some commercial oriented moments in the last 3 albums, but it isn't bad.

I reccomend you listen to Hammers Of Misfortune. Amazing band, I'm sure you will enjoy this delightful progressive doom/folk metal

This is kind of alternative "Best Of" list precisely because of far too prog and prog (insert word) bands. And yes, every list is subjective piece though with the different level of the mentioned...

Actually I'm not a prog metal fen
I prefer thrash and classic heavy, but these styles are with very few significant representatives in the new millennium.

I cannot agree completely with that because there are many new thrash and classic heavy metal bands that just kick ass.

THRASH: Havok, Lazarus A.D., Warbringer, Violator, Gama Bomb, Seregon, Bonded by Blood, Fueled by Fire, Diamond Plate.
In addition, many 80s' band are passing there revival like Exodus, Testament, Kreator. Megadeth is also doing fine and Slayer is, well Slayer.

CLASSIC STUFF: There is also a number of new bands that incorporate new and modern classic influences. These are bands for your consideration - Steelwing, Cauldron, Enforcer, Crystal Viper, 3 Inches Of Blood, Skull Fist, etc.

As you can see, there are bands that play the real thing

Thanks for the suggestions, man

I agree about Warbringer [and on half about the veterans Testament and Exodus]. But the other new thrash bands are average quality. Better are only Vektor and Evile.
For me, all Slayer albums after "Divine Intervention" are mediocre, Megadeth have only one very good album - "Endgame", Kreator recorded well assembled cliches.

3 Inches Of Blood, Enforcer and Steelwing are good bands, nothing more. About Cauldron, Crystal Viper, Skull Fist ... no bad, but too little originality.

Well, they reinvent the wheel
Yet, there is good music out there if a bit derivative. Havok's first album is just kiler, but the second one is full of songs that sound too similar. Slayer has been doing the same thing ever since "Divine Intervention". That's why I listen them with "Seasons in the Abyss" conclusive.

As for heavy metal stuff, they lack originality. Still, they rock hard. Steelwing is my favorite in this New Wave of Heavy Metal. They have pretty distinctive sound and though inspired by old masters, they know how to sound fresh and modern...

Yet, Slayer deserve respect - they not succumbed to the fashion wave of records with symphonic orchestra

Best band of the new wave of heavy metal (for me) is Slough Feg. In their records really have talent and emotion, clichés are negligible

My favorite metal musicians of this millennium :
- JOHN COBBETT ( Hammers Of Misfortune ; Slough Feg ; Ludicra ; Vhöl )
- MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT
- MIKE SCALZI ( Slough Feg ; Hammers Of Misfortune )
- JIMMY "THE REV" SULLIVAN ( Avenged Sevenfold )
- MARIUSZ DUDA ( Riverside )

Maybe John Cobbett and Mike Scalzi are unknown of many metal fens but their work at the last 13 years is unique !!

Well, my musical taste is a little odd ... I like well-arranged songs - not ultramodern "masterpieces" with 100% digital sounding and a lot of effects.
