Thanks for the suggestions (and thumbs up). |

Also, Sylosis, Be'lakor, Uneven Structure, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Periphery (marginally), In Mourning, Riverside, Ørkenkjøtt...perhaps Amorphis if you're into melodic black (or however you might define it ) |

Amorphis if you're into melodic black (or however you might define it )
The first Amorphis was basically old-school death with some melodeath and doomy moments from what I recall. |

Agh, I forgot their debut was The Karelian Isthmus and not Tales....I actually enjoyed their debut more than their sophomore effort. But then again it's been ages since I last gave the album a listen....
Forget Amorphis' debut, not worthy of this list |

Well I like both, but I'd probably opt for the debut, even if Tales is classed as a classic of the melodeath genre |

Just had another listen and enjoyed it more than I remembered so clearly my tastes have changed, but not sufficiently....early melodeath is too raw and the melodies too primitive...having dificulties poiting out what don't enjoy about it :S |

Anaal Nathrakh.
By the way, what the hell were those guys thinking when they came up with this word for the band's name? Anaal (Dutch) = Anal (English). That's why I initially thought this band was from The Netherlands. |

From Wikipedia:
"The name comes from Merlin's Charm of Making in John Boorman's 1981 film Excalibur. According to Michael Everson's transcription, Anaal Nathrakh means "serpent's breath.""

| No Mercyful Fate or Delain? |

| The only ones on here I agree with are Agalloch, Candlemass, Katatonia, Swallow The Sun, and My Dying Bride |

Too many to name really. I feel a lot of bands have their highest point early in their career. Also to compile a list of great debuts would technically include bands who have produced one album which was great... which could be an entire list on it's own. It is however interesting to see your musical tastes in the form of debut albums, so nice list. |

Thanks. And yeah, this list could be confusing to some, since there's a lot of symphonic/gothic/doom etc., while there's no heavy, power or death. So it's a pretty personal list. I'm not going to add albums of genres I don't like that much just because it's critically acclaimed (an extreme way to put it, but you catch my drift).
Anyway, I'm currently listening to a lot of different debut albums of bands I don't know that well, which are all either (atmospheric) doom/gothic/black. So the list will definitely keep getting bigger. |

I believe Kill Em' All came out in 1983, not 1986 (MoP came out that year). Must be a typo. |

You're right. Since I don't actually own the album (unlike basically every other album on the list), I indeed made a typo. Thanks for paying attention. |

| Added 7 albums... I listened enough to each album to know they're worthy of this list, but not enough yet to rate them, so I'll do that soon. |

Listened to it and it sounds amazing, definitely my kind of music. Also added another great debut: Fallout (Slumber). |

Since you actually check things out , these bands also have great debuts ( imo) :
Klimt 1918
Virgin Black
Stolen Babies
Les Discrets
A Forest of Stars
Lye By Mistake
etc . |

Yeah, this list is definitely going to keep getting bigger and bigger. I now have 30+ potential albums for this list, listening to a ton of different ones. And most albums sound great, so this list will consist of 100 albums in a year or so.
I'm curious to see your recommended albums. |

Added a few albums:
- 40 Watt Sun (The Inside Room)
- Evereve (Seasons)
- October Tide (Rain Without End)
- Rapture (Futile) |

ah, now am thumbing up this list. Hehe, Mourning Beloveth-Dust must be added asap. And maybe Novembers Doom-Amid Its Hallowed Mirth, Reverend Bizarre-In Rectory of The Bizarre Reverend depending on how you'll find them.
Thanks, man!
I've been wanting to listen to Mourning Beloveth's debut for a long time now, but still haven't done that. I own Amid Its Hollowed Mirth for a long time, but don't like it enough to add it to this list, but I might re-listen to it soon. Never heard of Reverend Bizarre, but I'm going to look into it. |

I agree with some albums, but I think there's still some names left: Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Helloween, The Sword, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and more but at least these should be essential.. Still it's a good list. |

Thanks. I see what you mean about some classic (essential) albums, but power and heavy aren't exactly my favourite genres. I might listen to the albums you mentioned though. I own Black Sabbath's debut but I didn't like it enough for it to be on this list, although I have to admit I only listened to it twice. |

Black Sabbath's album is iconic, it has to be in there listen the album a couple of times and you'll add it, lol.. Rainbow also.. Iron Maiden of course...
Annihilator, Anthrax, Metal Church, Death Angel and more... |

If I keep it up like this, the list will be huge in a few months. I can't keep listening to completely new albums all the time (need some familiar music as well), so I'm not as fast as other people. |

No hurry man we aren't on a schedule! and no-one likes all the debut's under the sun of course. Only the select few that each person finds enjoyable. |

Well, my schoolwork is really suffering since I made this list. Haha, just kidding of course.
And yeah, I don't really like all the suggestions so I'm not going to add those, haha (for example, I listened to Diablo Swing Orchestra since a few people suggested that album, but I didn't like it after one listen, but I might give them a second chance). I'm discovering a shit load of new bands lately, so that's a good thing at least. |

Listened to Metal Church and I really liked it. I hate to say it, but I think I'm beginning to like thrash, which I didn't think was possible. Also added Black Sabbath, as I liked it a lot more once I listened to it again after all this time. I'll check the others out too, soon. |

Why are some albums without your rating?
I haven't listened enough to rate them yet. Listening to an album once is enough for me to decide whether it's worthy for the list (most of the time) or not, but I need to listen 3-5 times to an album to rate it. Eventually all the albums on this list will be rated of course. But I don't know if anyone really pays attention to the ratings, but I just added them because some albums are way better than others in my opinion (as the minimum rating is a 7.5/10). |

I listened to to it once and was definitely impressed, as it sounded pretty unique for black metal. I have no idea what the rating will be, though it'll probably be an 8+ easily. |
