I think even Fenriz himself agrees with you. Even at the best DT has never been that good.

But isn't the atmosphere somehow dark? and so it makes the album black?

A lot of death metal albums could be black if we went by dark atmosphere =P

I always thought that's why there is a genre as blackened death? for example first and third songs on this album, I can't really know them as pure death metal

Because he's a personality who doesn't worship everything about himself unlike rockstar-ish BMers.

I like how Joe gave up discussing with me.

i wouldn't be so sure... Fenriz kind of made fun of fans of their early output when i interviewed him for MS before FOAD was released.

How about Fenriz' Red Planet? Based on the songs from that, I reckon he should be Black Sabbath's new vocalist and drummer.

Really, I don't know, but usually he jokes a lot, and makes fun of everything, based on other interviews he doesn't really take DT that serious either. He always mentions so many great underground bands that are obviously much better his own music.

It's available as a split ep with Nattefrost called Engangsgrill. Red Planet's a sort of retro 70s doom, while the Nattefrost stuff sounds like a punky version of Carpathian Forrest.

No big deal. The ones he mentioned (earlier on Craig's interview or interviews outside MS) is well-known bands. So he listens to underground bands is very much visible just like any other fans listens to.

As far as Fenriz making fun of Darkthrone and fans - it has become quite passé.

I think that you don't have right idea of his opinions about music. He's totally into promoting non-mainstream bands.

!J.O.O.E.! - 01.02.2015 at 22:50
I dunno, I think everything in between TH and Sardonic Wrath is mostly guff, and only Circle the Wagons of the new era is worth listening to. To be honest even Under a Funeral Moon is a bit pointless. Why listen to that when you can have either album before and after it?

Gotta disagree here. I think the three classics have all differences both small and huge.

Absolutely, even if falling under the "trve kvlt" umbrella they have very distinguishable atmospheres.

Same goes with mid-era that always get dissed, yet having some of their most interesting material. I don't really understand when people say "it's the same thing all over again" or whatever, when the band is in constant evolution hardly repeating the same formula. Makes me wonder if they know the albums at all.

Hhahaah well, yeah that's a whole different discussion if some like it or not. I was just commenting on the pointless tag as there are more than enough differences in style and production to make it stand on its own.
Why don't you save a night and listen to it while you do another good deed... Like buying aticket or something.
Crazy idea, I know.

I feel like you obnoxiously start jumping whenever you hear Fenriz/Darkthrone. Just calm your nerve down.

And you really need to go and give all Darkthrone records a go. You faulter a lot.

I gave all of them a go, but as Joe said most of them are quite forgettable records, so it's not surprising to mix them up sometimes.
