Mind Manifesting: Apothecary's Guide To Psychedelic Soundscapes

I've always been a huge fan for psychedelic music of any and all kinds. The enveloping atmosphere, the ability of minimalist solos to create a grand sense of harmony, and all those deliciously trippy effects that you can zone out with... they all come together for such a stimulating, otherworldly experience. Metal is actually quite diverse when it comes to the incorporation of psychedelic influences, with bands taking such influences in both discreet and large dosages, and everything in between. This is often where I'm most comfortable with my metal: when it's the type that makes me feel like I'm on Ayahuasca communicating with the jaguar elders of yesterday.

1. Aarni - Bathos
2. Bong - Stoner Rock
3. Boris - Smile
4. Dark Buddha Rising - Dakhmandal
5. Domovoyd - Oh Sensibility

The Best Of Dissonant Metal

Metal art of dissonance as I love it.
Rules:
- on album per band, unless the band has very different albums.
-I'm not picky for albums released before 2000.
-I'm not picky for genres that are to some degrees unusual for the dissonance, like sludge metal.

This list is open to suggestions.

1. Abyssal - Novit Enim Dominus Qui Sunt Eius
2. Alkerdeel - Morinde
3. Altars - Paramnesia
4. AMNIS NIHILI - Christological Escalation
5. Antediluvian - λόγος

Apothecary's Awesome Album Art Anthology

I know I probably speak for a lot of people when I say that, very often, the artwork that a band chooses for a particular album can be the icing on the cake, essential to giving a visual depiction that tops off the overall aesthetic of the music. There are plenty of albums that I simply couldn't imagine listening to without staring, zoned out, to the big ball of glorious that is their cover art. Here are some such albums. In alphabetical order by band. Links to full images of the covers have been provided, as well as credits to the artists.

1. Aarni - Bathos
2. Absu - The Sun Of Tiphareth
3. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
4. Bathory - Blood Fire Death
5. Blue Öyster Cult - Fire Of Unknown Origin

A List Of Great One-Man Band Albums

Creating good music might not be an easy task, but most bands in existence consist of multiple members who contribute to the music. One-man bands however are simply musicians who create the music all by themselves, which, in my opinion, is very impressive. Because of the fact that there are quite a few of these talented musicians, I created this list. Of course there are many more one-man band albums than I have listed here and that's why I'm open to suggestions. So be sure to give me recommendations and also let me know if I listed the "wrong" album by a band (in your opinion). Lastly, the list is ranked according to genre and then alphabetically. I only add 1 (full-length) album per band (and only albums that are featured on MS).

1. [Avantgarde]
2. Aarni - Bathos
3. Brown Jenkins - Death Obsession
4. Cloak Of Altering - Ancient Paths Through Timeless Voids
5. De Magia Veterum - The Divine Antithesis

A Reminder Of 2013's Albums

Albums from 2013 worth being considered for a replay, I'm already having trouble remembering some of them. I'll TRY to order them from the one I liked most to the least.
I'm taking a passive stand to this year's music since I'm dedicating myself to old records currently, so probably 3/4 of the stuff I checked out came to me from this site one way or another

1. Corrections House - Last City Zero
2. Dreadnought - Lifewoven
3. Ayreon - The Theory Of Everything
4. Obscure Sphinx - Void Mother
5. Kayo Dot - Hubardo

Pretty self explanatory. Although I usually forget to keep these kinds of lists up all year so we'll see if I keep this one up all year or forget about this one too after a couple months...

2. Amiensus - Restoration
3. Lascaille's Shroud - Interval 01: Parallel Infinities - The Inner Universe

XIII

Best (the rest, and the worst) of 2013 (thus far).
Partially ordered (the ones with descriptions).
Subject to change, as I see fit.

The curtain call to another fascinating year for metal beckons. Far from disappointing, 2013 is marked by some outstanding releases from various genres, many of whom excelled well beyond expectations. A pretty diverse and intense outing has yielded a very large number of albums to this list, a fact that I take heart from, especially from the more unknown ones from both MS and outside, as many of the obscure findings have truly caught me by surprise. All in all, it has been good fun finding and listening to awesome and diverse music, from both inside and outside of my comfort zone. Lastly, a special thank you to everyone who helped making the list better, with corrections and recommendations and whatever else, and those who made their appreciation felt in one way or the other, as well as other list makers, from whom I siphoned stuff up from time to time.

1. Ulcerate - Vermis
2. The Monolith Deathcult - Tetragrammaton
3. Persefone - Spiritual Migration
4. Witherscape - The Inheritance
5. Eye Of Solitude - Canto III
