Jim Matheos (Westfield, MA, U.S.A., 22 November 1962) is the guitarist and primary songwriter for the progressive metal band Fates Warning. He has also released two solo instrumental albums on Metal Blade Records.
Additionally, Jim plays in OSI (described as a 'project with band aspirations') alongside Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex-Dream Theater), who handles keyboards, programming, and vocals.
OSI has also worked with Steven Wilson (No-Man/Porcupine Tree), Gavin Harrison (King Crimson/Porcupine Tree), Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Sean Malone (Cynic) and Tim Bowness (No-Man), and produced three albums (Office of Strategic Influence, Free and Blood) for the respected German progressive rock label, InsideOut.
He also participated on the project called Gordian Knot, which is a fusion of Progressive Rock and Jazz, alongside with musicians like Jason Gobel, Sean Reinert, and Gordian Knot mastermind Sean Malone.
In 2003, Jim collaborated with original Fates Warning vocalist John Arch on A Twist of Fate, the vocalist's first professional recording since he left the group after their 1986 recording Awaken the Guardian.
With Fates Warning, he has recorded ten albums.
