These days "traditional" doom metal, the type that's highly derivative of Black Sabbath, Pentagram, and/or Electric Wizard, tends to bore me quite a lot. This corner of the metal spectrum is so much more interesting when it's either left field and abstract as all hell (see Monolithe, Bloody Panda) or when it's merged with other genres and styles. This is a seriously good album. Heavy doom with some post-, metalgaze and progressive twists, and tracks that sound different from each other. Quite possibly the best thing I've heard in 2020.

I don't quite see the stoner metal here, seems like a post-metal/doom hybrid or something to me. Good stuff though, I like Light Bearer quite a lot

Very good and enjoyable doom metal record in its own right. If there's one big thing I don't love about with this album, then it has to be the fact that I have literally heard the same kind of stuff too many times before to count, so there's not that much originality to be found here.

Enjoying this a lot. Reminds me of Pallbearer. Edit: the song "Controlling Waves" is the only song with a real likeness to Pallbearer. Other parts of the album remind me of Pink Floyd and some of the heavier parts remind me of Yob.
