I mean it's definitely not a bad release by any means, probably actually one of the few that deserves its obnoxiously high rating on here. But I've always found RIP to probably be the most overrated album in the Megadeth discography, especially when Peace Sells and Killing Is My Business (why do people sleep on this album so much arrrrgghhh!) exist.
I was discussing this with a friend the other day and he was like "ohhhh but those albums don't have Holy Wars or Take No Prisoners!"
I could just as easily say that RIP doesn't have Black Friday, Bad Omen, Rattlehead, The Skull Beneath The Skin, etc.
Also Chris Poland was the best Megadeth guitarist ever, and probably would've run circles around Marty Friedman had they ever gotten into an actual guitar battle. Fight me.
The album is not overrated, is obvious that you love thrash metal more than metal in general and I can see why you don't appreciate RIP as a whole, is just because this record is so much more than Thrash like Peace Sells or Killing Is My Business, Rust In Peace take Thrash beyond its borders, mixing it with more melodic, versatile stuff even jazz elements, sometimes RIP takes his time, and not all the time is aggressive, things that not thrash fans can understand!!

Yes, Sahar only cares about thrash metal, and nothing else in metal! He hates innovation, only raw, old-school thrash. Yup, that's the Sahar I know. Definitely. Totally.

Yeah, but you're mocking a newbie that does not know anyone here on MS.

I’m partial to black metal, doom, drone, and industrial far more so than thrash, actually, but OK.
Anywho, my margin of error for RIP vs the other two I mentioned is slim anyway. For me, I’d say RIP gets a 9, KIMB a 9.5. Peace Sells is an easy 10.

"I Ain't Superstitious" is the only thing that brings Peace Sells down for me as a whole. I often say that Rust In Peace is the best album ever, but Peace Sells is the best Megadeth album ever -- if that makes sense, lol.

Technically brilliant where especially some solos are truly facemelting. I would like to give it higher rating since both Hangar 18 and Tornado of Souls are out of this world. Hangar 18 might be my favourite Megadeth track, the set of solos always impress me along with the catchy riffs. At the same time there's some songs that don't do that much for me like Lucretia, Five Magics and Dawn Patrol.

Pretty much in the same boat as you. Five Magics is truly an awful song.

Five Magics is one of the best songs on the album. That bass intro alone is better than a lot of the stuff on here. If there’s any bad ones it’s either Lucretia or Take No Prisoners (Everyone likes this for some reason but gawd it’s classic cringetastic Dave lyrics that sounds like it would’ve come off an album like United Abominations instead).

I quite like "Five Magics" tbh, for me the weakest track on the album is "Take No Prisoners", and even that's a reasonably good song. "Holy Wars" has always been my favorite ever Megadeth song, but "Hangar 18", "Tornado Of Souls", and "Rust In Peace...Polaris" all aren't far behind that, they're all time thrash metal classics imo.

I can join the pro-Five Magics train, that bassline during the first phase is dope as hell, and I dig what it subsequently transitions into as well. Excluding Dawn Patrol (which isn't really a proper song), the weakest here for me are also Lucretia and Take No Prisoners like Mönkey said, but both are still fine songs

Agreed. The riffs are pretty insane, but the song as a whole is not that great.

What more can be said? This album is the absolute pinnacle of thrash, and arguably metal as whole.
I was lucky to see the 25th anniversary show for this album. They played it cover to cover w/o commentary between songs. Ranks pretty high in my favorite concert list...

I saw them twice on the Rust In Peace tour. Clash of the Titans Oct '90 and Hammersmith Odeon Mar '91. Still have the ticket stubs

I saw them on Countdown maybe? It was weird, they were opening for Aerosmith.

The only time I saw Aerosmith was Wembley Arena 1989 on the Pump tour. Needed to look it up, but The Quireboys supported.
