When I came across Aguirre's review of Metallica's '...And Justice For All', I immediately spewed Coca-Cola everywhere and threatened the non-stickiness of my keyboard. I didn't see it coming, I guess. Aguirre is entitled to his opinion, but what follows is my review of Metallica's 'last great' and 'progressive' album.

It can easily be said that music is a photo in time. A fragment in where society is once shot, forever leaving the remembrance of where and who we were. This translates directly and more so intently to an artist or band, and where they were in their lives and careers when a piece of work was released. For Metallica in 1988, two-years removed from a loss of a brother, a friend and a band mate, bassist Cliff Burton, they showed their scars in an album that I can only help but adore. "?And Justice For All" is a long, (65-minutes long, 10 less than the maximum) drawn out, epic, loud, angry, and emotionally charged record that sweeps its listeners up into its messages and endless musicianship.

Metallica! Need we say anything more about this band? They are the biggest Heavy Metal band ever to have existed, sold more records than any other Metal band and have performed in almost all the countries on the planet. They are the fathers of Thrash Metal and are one of the most influential bands of all time. Most of you know a great deal about them so I won't be elaborating anymore.

Hmmm, so this is the last "true" Metallica classic? Let me start off by saying a lot of fans consider this to be their "progressive" album, while after hearing it through, the only thing I can point out that has "progressed" is the band's ability to bore the listener into a deep coma after a couple tracks.

As much as I think AJFA is flawed, it's still better than 99% of the crap out there.

Hence it's going from a 6 to a 7.

Does this mean you think 99% of music isn't good?

How would one know unless one listened to everything? I probably listen to less than 1% of new music myself and most others would be struggling to find the time to really listen, in depth, to the majority of new releases.

I just read Joey Jo Jo's review. Fully agreed !
They're trying hard to be "progressive", unfortunately the skills of the guitarist and drummer are not good enough.

At least you increased your rating from 1 to 3. This album probably has some of Lars best drumming.

Are you seeking attention or something? What do you prefer Mr. Bored?

He still had time to write the comment before passing away. Cause of death was officially given as "...And Justice for All".

Great album, but the production and length drag it down a bit.

As does the songwriting

This album was an immense letdown when I got hold of it in 1988. Damn, were me and my friends disappointed by it.

No doubt, I believe that. Everything on there is a letdown compared to the previous three albums.

Not everything. Blackened, One, and Dyer's Eve were great. But the rest of the songs... oh my fucking God. Where was the producer to tell the guys to cut down on the length of their songs?

To be honest I never was a fan of One... but I don't know 'bout the producer lol, maybe he thought ''oh well they probably know what they're doing''

Eh, I like it, but as you said, there's some fat that should have been cut. And maybe one or two songs that should have been left out (I'm thinking about Eye Of The Beholder and The Shortest Straw.)

Lack of bass aside, I actually think the production kinda fits here. It gives the album a cold and mechanical feel.

I wouldn't say this is bad an album, but it's one of the most boring thrash albums I've ever heard. Plenty of boring riffs and questionable song structures and lengths, that's pretty much what this album is. Sure I could say the obvious "bad production" here too, which isn't to me as big an issue as the songs itself are. To me "The Shortest Straw" is the only song here that doesn't go on too long and lose its interest in countless of forgettable riffs.

I WOULDN'T really recommend this album to pussies, non-pussies or anyone else either. Personally I would go and I will go listen to Heathen's Victims of Deception when I'm urging for something that sounds like this album.

Awesome album, but yeah, seriously, and all because the producer didn't originally give him the drum sound he had requested.

Thanks, haven't heard of it yet, even though the bass is bit overkilled in levels (but understandably so considering the theme) it still sounds better.

This is by far my favorite Metallica album (yes even more than Master and the Black Album). The music is so incredible on every song and Hetfield's voice is very good on this record. I don't see why there are a few people on this page who are hating on this album. Yeah the album has hardly any bass, but the album itself has a great feel all the way through. Plus Lars is actually pretty good on this record.

The biggest problem with this album isn't the production, it's the lack of flutes and the way they don't play their mandolins loudly enough.
