This song must be over one and a half hour long... What? "Four track EP?" Oh, I see: though each chapter is a captivating composition with its own character, the four combine into a novella rather than an anthology. Argent Moon is more than the sum of its parts, and I've been listening for hours.

The songs they've released so far from this didn't grab me. Hopefully hearing them in the context of an EP will help.

In my honest opinion, I personally think that the 3 songs they've released so far sound decent. But I think Jani's vocals sound pretty weird, since Ville Friman doesn't sing on any of those tracks. Guess that we will have to wait until the last song of this release / full EP comes out and I will give out my final thoughts about it.

Edit: Another good release by them! Although, it's more softer than their previous stuff, but I personally like how each song sounds. So it's a 8 for me! These songs might appear on their next album. So we will just have to wait and see...

The one song that wasn't released as an advance single, "The Wanderer", is pretty clearly the best one here IMO

Insomnium is one of those bands that never fails to impress me. Even with only 4 tracks, there's a lot of different sounds on this EP.

Yawn, I feel bad talking down on Insomnium since they were one of my favorite bands when I was first getting into metal, however, I feel like they've been making what is more or less the same thing for as long as I can remember. This album is yet another album that sounds like their others except it's a little bit slower and now they have mediocre clean vocals, meh. I'm pretty over the MDM genre in general except for Be'lakor and Mors Principium Est (pre Andy loss, they probably will suck now). I dunno, I just feel that Insomnium is one of the more overrated acts on the metal scene and this album is further evidence of their stagnation.

Each of these songs hit home at some point. Very influenced by the previous album Heart Like A Grave this EP will flow good into the next album.

This is the sound direction and songwriting that I would NOT like Insomnium to be led. I hope it was just an experimental EP...

A bit experimental, feels like Insomnium in some parts but not in others. Jani's horrendous singing (and that's an euphemism) is absolutely destroying what could've otherwise been a nice emotional delve into unknown territories for Insomnium. Is he what Petri Lindroos was to Norther and Ensiferum, ie a destroyer of an amazing band? Time will tell; Argent Moon is a continuum of what Heart Like A Grave was: very unconvincing output, a bump in the road for a band that was pretty much flawless before then.

This was written after 30 plays of Argent Moon and I've been fan of the band since 2002.

A Nice Guy
Sadly I've not really been feeling this one, it's just pretty standard melancholic melodeath as far as I can hear, and a long way off Insomnium's best work.
