Star One may well be one of Arjen Lucassen's most consistent endeavours of his prolific career. What was supposed to have been a one-off is now on its third album, although it's taken 20 years to reach this mark. However, this consistency within a fairly rigid creative framework also appears as its greatest weakness, resulting in what can overall be assessed as adequate.

Stellar compositions, vocals and musicianship as always. The middle section is indeed the weaker part of the album, but only Bridge Of Life does nothing for me, every other track is either brilliant or at least has a catchy tune that sticks (Back From The Past and The Year Of '41 for example, both are straightforward classic Prog Rock songs with little innovation but I can't stop listening to them). 8.8

I like many of the performers, and even their perfomances here, but still cannot praise the album yet, maybe i should come back to it later this year... however i had the same experience with the last Ayreon outings...and yes i was a fan of classic Ayreon and first Star One....

This one is a grower for sure. It took me 10 listens to really love this album but now I do.

Gotta say, this really doesn't live up to the first two albums.

Not feeling this one. Feels a bit too familiar and generic. Lots of great singers here but it's only a few he manage to get something special out of, maybe it's because the songs aren't that good in the first place or the horrible fact that many of them are quite old today... anyway Khan sounds brilliant on Lost Children of the Universe and it's easily my favourite track here.
