The released track does very little for me. The melodic ideas are really bland and the vocals are quite annoying. Meh

A slight disappointment after "Sang", but also feels like it needs more listens. "Un Contre Mille" stands out so far

It's hard to talk about this album with just a few spins because there's so much going on here, more than it may seem at first. What makes this album special, I think, is its ability to create dialog through instruments. Damn, this guy is able to create a black metal opera with just a bunch of tremolo riffs. Melodies TELL a story and they don't need vocals or lyrics to do so. I appreciate when an album takes me on a journey and Ordalies achieves that.
For me it's a masterwork born of heart and head. Head because every song is crafted slowly, without rush, putting every bit on its right place, letting the progressions develop to form a bigger picure. Heart because every note is played in such a passionate honest way.
Favorite of the year so far.

My conclusion is that this is a brilliant album, although I can see why some people won't be taken to it. I suppose it helps the fact that I'm a real sucker for traditional medieval folk, aswel as traditional black metal, and this contained a great combination of both.
And although generic to some, the riff melodies did enough for me, there was enough to keep me hooked at least. The folk parts were good too, not too over the top which would suit most people, but I would of preferred more folk instruments being played personally. The vocals were average, but I never minded that. I actually really liked the French spoken voice in parts, it added a slight medieval touch to the album at times.
My main issue, which again is not a major one, is that some of the songs could of been a wee bit shorter, I think an hour is a tad too long for one sitting, just my preference though. All in all a mighty fine album, straight into my top 3 for this year so far

Good supplant of Ensiferum. Nothing surprises me here. Why Black metal tag? No albums have bm flavors whatsoever.
