"Beautiful distortion" is what I'd call a lot of metal, though it's usually more "distortion" than "beautiful". Beautiful Distortion is more "beautiful" than "distortion".

My most anticipated release in years. Had a strong How To Measure A Planet? feel to it when I first encountered the released singles and the album did not disappoint. Stellar release. There are bits and pieces of Nighttime Birds, Souvenirs and Home splattered there as well. A decade lasting hiatus from Disclosure did not do them any harm and hell did I miss a good trip-rock infused album in those years. Silje sounds majestic, the passages and tempo changes are wonderful and depict such a wide array of emotions. Mind & soul provoking.

You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was a man. But it was nothing to me but blinding.

A Solid release, a bit too "mellow" and no metal at all... I was expecting more.

We Rise and Black is Magnified aregreat.

I really enjoyed Disclosure, I had big hopes for this album, but so far I think Disclosure is still better for me.

Maybe they should consider a name change since this barely sounds anything like the old band. It's pissing off the old fans. This band obviously doesn't care (pun intended).
I still like the album for what it is, but it's NOT The Gathering. This sounds more like Delerium or Balligomingo, lol.
And it probably shouldn't be listed on this site since its not metal in any way shape or form.
If Suffocation turned into a bluegrass band, would you want them on here?
I don't think so.

Oh, but of course this album should be listed here. Because it belongs to the catalogue of a band that used to play metal.
For me it is important to have complete catalogues of all bands that played metal at some point in their career, so that you can see how the bands developed their style over time.

After first spin, it sounds a bit... well, dated and not as ambitious as you'd expect. It has this 00s sleek prog/alt-rock sound that was hardly cutting edge on Disclosure (which I came to really like, more than Home) but by now it just feels out of step (and not in a timeless or uniquely eccentric way).

It's not bad, by any means. The band seems to be in good form, and Silje's vocals are as strong as ever. But for an album so long in the making, from a band who always pushed the enveloped and kept putting out better and better albums, this feels like nothing happened over the last 10 years. It's still pretty, so I'm hoping it'll grow on me.

It's a very nice album, with a calm and tranquil atmosphere, but can get a little tiresome after some time. I would say this is more of an album that you really need to be in the right mood for, or it would seem a little dull.

The vocals are as beautiful as ever, and importantly not too overpowering, which I really like. The songwriting on this one isn't their best.
If anything else it does make decent lullaby music, as I myself have found out.

Yes, that would be the best thing to happen to Suffocation in years.

There's a song called Weightless which basically describes the album pretty well. It's very soft and ethereal. My fav song, though, is Black Is Magnified. It's the "heaviest" of the bunch.
Not the greatest come back album, but overall enjoyable.

It doesn't top Disclosure, but it's still a really solid entry in their discography. Black Is Magnified is a profoundly beautiful track...
