With an album title that means ‘work against nature’, you may have expected Behemoth to create a work more contrary to their own nature.

Yeah, better than their previous work, but still not great. Sloppy songwriting for a band of this caliber IMO. It's like each member of the band is doing whatever they feel like. Nothing connects well together, especially the drumming, which I find quite overbearing, despite the skill displayed. There are some moments that remind me of good old Behemoth, but some of this album is a chore to get through.

Honestly, tone the solos down, tell Inferno to chill a bit, and this would be a great melodic death/black album. Torn between a 6 or a 7. Albums like this are more frustrating than outright bad albums because it's *thiiiiiis* close to being a great release.

Overall I find this album a wee bit disappointing, they have always been a very hit and miss band for me through the years, and I worry now that they have dropped down to a mediocore level of standards. There are no interesting riffs that stand out for me, the songwriting is very uninspiring, and the production isn't that great either. However the symphonic tribal chanting is pretty cool, it works very effectively, especially on the final track.

I've always liked Behemoth better in this slower, more atmospheric fashion. They went a bit too slow for me with their last, but this one seems to have the perfect tempo for me. Lots of killer tracks, well spread over the album to keep it interesting until the end. One of my favourite Behemoth so far I think. Let's see how it stands the test of time.

It's not bad but it's not really satisfying either.

I've never been a huge Behemoth fan and I think I'm coming from an atypical perspective because out of the albums I've heard I liked I Loved You At Your Darkest the most. I do appreciate the brutality of their older albums but there was always a part of their music that I didn't like or got bored with. Opvs Contra Natvram is a good blend between their more recent works and their 2000s sound. There are some really fun riffs and solos as well as great drumming. They brought back a lot of aggression, technicality, and energy to try to recapture what they used to have and that is probably the most memorable quality to this album. There are a few good atmospheric sections but I would have preferred more of that. Overall it doesn't feel like there is quite enough here, from either its runtime or its ideas. I thought fans of the older stuff would enjoy this album a bit more than me but that doesn't seem to be the case, it seems very few people love it. I think most people would agree that this was a good effort but it could have gone further in one direction or another and that the writing certainly needed a little more work. Maybe another year in the oven would have made the difference.

I might have liked Ov My Herculean Exile more if it were a full-on proper doom song but it's pretty close. The Deathless Sun is alright and so is Neo-Spartacvs if I ignore the bits of lyrics I can pick out that one. The last 3 or 4 songs are the best part of the album without a doubt.

After listening to this a few times I went back to ILYAYD and that made ILYAYD look even better because it has more cohesive songwriting, more passion, and more variation. The same could be said about many other Behemoth albums when compared to this one.

I liked the previous one better than this but this one have faster tracks. Comparatively second half is better.

As I recall, Nergal never wanted to make an album that is "nice"... yet, this is a "nice" album. It sounds "nice".
