The album has a Good mix of Progressive Rock and Melodic Death metal. Its not overly heavy. The synths are just beautifuly paired with the riffs. Everything that comes out of Speed his mouth is just stunning.
A great try from a great band just moving forward with their sound.

Man, these guys have every right to compete for one of the best melodeath bands in history.

Yeah, honestly, these guys have just been putting out good album after good album since The Living Infinite and this continues that trend. As a band they sound incredibly tight, there's a lot of fresh sound here, and some really cool use of different instruments on this album. There isn't a track here I don't like, that being said, I would've liked to see the instrumental tracks worked in a little better.

Compared to The Halo Effect or the new In Flames stuff, this is just more fresh and exciting.

Don't have enough listens to give a rating yet, but it's really great stuff. I happen to like Night Flight Orchestra, and yes, there is definitely that influence in here. So it's sorta a win/win. Soilwork has definitely perfected the heavy, catchy, accessible choruses style of melodeath. And for the people who prefer the older stuff and heavier melodeath, the good news is that we have newer soilwork which is awesome and unique. Then, the classic Soilwork albums aren't going anywhere. And, there's still a ton of awesome melodeath bands that have cranked out awesome stuff in recent years.

The death metal parts are not so many as I would like to be but its a good album. Not even close to call it melodeath ,more progressive I would say.
But who cares how to call it since its good!

Well arranged and produced but it has too many metalcore elements for me to be able to enjoy it. Whiny growls, boy-band straight vocals, simplistic riffs. Pure cringe as usual from these guys.

Gets better with every listen. The seamless transitions between classic rock and melodeath really makes it stand out, and it manages to never fall back to the 08/15 Soilwork of their 2000s albums.

Leaning a bit too far towards mellow-death

Didnt hate it, but a bit too easy-listening.
Also while every song was full of ideas (many good), it was not very cohesive to my ears. Plus the sheer cheesiness of some chorus melodies (e.g. Death I Hear You Calling, Dreams of Nowhere) made me laugh - I get that Bjørn can sing, but it seems a step in a weird direction to me. I also thought the production was a step backwards from Whisp of the Atlantic, which sounded much heavier.

Highlights: Is it in your Darkness, Electric Again

The style doesn't bother me at all, I really dig the execution. Whether we call death or metalcore or alternative or anything else, what matters is that they did it right. For the first time, I think I should give their discography a good listen.

After a few listens now I'm beginning to like it less, there's nothing that really stands out as such other than it's clean modern production. The songs "Death, I Hear You Calling", and "The Everlasting Flame" are pretty decent in parts but other than than that there's nothing at all memorable about thus album to me.

The vocals aren't to my taste either, they make the album sound too mainstream, and the melodies and songwriting are no more than generic to me. The main problem I have is the album length, it's way too long imho, perhaps I would have appreciated it more if it had been cut short by 15-20 minutes.

Totally agree with the length issue. This album started absolutely perfectly for me, "Nous Sommes La Guerre" is my clear highlight of the album. There are lots of great moments in there, but after 30mn I started feeling it was time for something else and checked how long was left to play.. Was almost chocked to see I didn't reach the half mark. I would have been ok for a couple more songs, but here 1h05 seems totally unjustified. There are obvious fillers in the middle, and for me this album would go from a 6-7 to an 8 just by remove 4-5 tracks.

Bit cheesier and presence of few fillers made this album less interesting compared to their last outing but still they have produced what is expected. Could have reduced the length by 2-3 tracks.

In the beginning I was made of clay. Then I bit the apple and they changed me to metal 🤘

Confused by some of these comments. This is Soilwork by the numbers and nothing new or different from them. If you've heard pretty much anything from them in the last 10 years you've heard this all before. That said, I'm enjoying it. Soilwork really has this catchy, addictive songwriting that just keeps me coming back for more even if its just more of the same.

I personally prefer the second half of this album more than the first but there really isn't a bad song on here. Conversely, I also don't think there is an extraordinary track on here either and the big single "Overgivenheten" is one of the weaker tracks on the album for me. The song takes awhile to finally get going and while the melodies and performance are all great, it lacks a big hook to it that leaves the song feeling forgettable once you've stopped listening. This record also feels a bit less heavy which continues the trend a bit as they've been slowly dialing back the speed since The Living Infinite. That isn't to say that there isn't hard hitting tracks on here though - tracks like Golgata and Harvest Spine remind us that they can still kick our ass if needed! Also want to shout-out the last track on the album. Its one of the longest they've done and it's a really cool epic and perfect way to close. The album length is possibly a bit too long, but this is a band whose most successful record was an hour and half long so I find it hard to criticize here.

My Highlights: This Godless Universe, Dream of Nowhere, Golgata, Harvest Spine

There is something about this album that really reminds me of Toto, and I love it. Listening to the title track, basically sounds like Fahrenheit-era Toto going thrash to me.
