At first I thought BaN's latest effort was the closest experience to the world below this year. But after hearing "Bezumnaya", damn, now I am unsure about that.

After listening to "Maximalis Scream" for the first time I was a bit afraid that Imperial Triumphant might disappoint me. The song seems like a continuation of the chosen path without really adding anything special. Fortunately this worry proved to be unjustified with "Merkurius Gilded" and even after listening to the whole album several times I have to say that I personally find it even less chaotic and disjointed, partly even more poppy than "Alphaville", which is probably due to the fact that songs like "Metrovertigo", "Tower of Glory. .", "Death on a Highway" and the jammy "In the Pleasure..." definitely have melodic moments that stick and still expand the band's cosmos in a meaningful way.
Sadly the cover artwork is atrociously ugly

Wow. It was a chore getting through the first 3 tracks. That's enough musical masturbation for me this year...

High class evil... this band isn't easy to listen but it's very exciting for me every album...
Uf! The drums work is really awesome...
This is a good year when White Ward and Imperial Triumphant releases new albums. I just need a new Car Bomb's album to be really happy.

Dissonance for dissonances sake is just boring. This band would surprise me by making a conventional song at this point; They are starting to wear out their welcome.

People just don’t get it, it seems. Good sign of forward thinking music. I might still prefer Alphaville, tho.
I will never understand that cover art though. Looks like Tyler the Creator if he were a character in the Great Gatsby.

Yeah, artwork-wise, it's a real letdown. Otherwise, I think it's a step up from Alphaville in every way, particularly in the atmosphere it creates.

Dissonance and convention aren't really related at all, since we're discussing styles that conventionally use dissonance, but maybe that's not what you meant to imply? I agree dissonance isn't very exciting just for its own sake, just like with consonance, you need to build memorable melodies whether you employ dissonance or not. I'd be interested too in hearing a conventional song by them, would be sort of like when Zappa made "Bobby Brown", hah.

One of the few albums where I feel like I need to listen to it a few times to really grasp everything going on. I'm not super big on the "harsh" vocals, but I love everything else for the most part. Sometimes the songwriting is a little too aimless, but overall a cool and fun release.

What an album... DM AOTY, no competition. This band is up there with Portal and Abyssal. Masters of dissonanse.
