Underrated i agree, still a good album, the problem was that it came after the brilliant Machine Head plus the turmoil in the band made the music suffer. Gillan and Blackmore could barely stay in the same room, could hardly stand each other, let alone make music together.

Again, as an album that is largely overshadowed by one of Deep Purple's career-defining records, 'Machine head', it would seem that this appears weak in comparison. However, there are still a few great moments on here, as well as one or two lackluster ones. The second half of the album is strangely where the musicianship and song-writing actually begin to work well, whereas the album's first few songs are slightly too simplistic for their own good. 'Rat bat blue' is excellent and largely helped by the keyboard work, whereas the fast-paced 'Super Trouper' just doesn't quite justify why it ended up on the album.

Somehow this is one of my few favourite Deep Purple albums. Despite all the internal troubles the band faced on the album, it ended up being interesting and energetic. Maybe it's Ian Gillan's frustration bursting out both in his lyrics and his vocals, but I can't help feeling the powerful energy behind these tracks. And, of course, the skills the musicians show are top-notch.
Favourites: Woman From Tokyo, Super Trouper, Smooth Dancer, Rat Bat Blue, Our Lady.

Not one of my DP favorites. I had even forgotten about this album and the title sounded unknown to me, the album is pretty forgettable and I think the songs aren't very good. "Woman From Tokyo" is usually considered as one of the DP classic songs, but IMO that song too sounds kind of weak when compared to best DP songs. I still kind of like the album; it's not really bad, except for "Mary Long" which can be skipped, most of the songs be can listened to again, but I don't see frequent listening potential for this album.
