It is as though the muso's have lost their drive regardless of the well executed production. "Let's make sales! All we need is 40 minutes worth of material and we're laughing, we'll grind our reputation into the ground through the exploitation of our band name".

I disagree here, it's not a bad song at all, quite enjoyable.
As for 'let's make sales", aren't musicians supposed to sell their product? They do have a life (and bills to pay).

I also don't see how this song ruins their reputation and exploits their band name.

I thought the two primary purposes for the internet were cat memes and overreactions.

Mate, it's a boring song. Especially when considering what Redemption are capable of doing, this is just following the minimum standard proceedure of songwriting, no thanks to whoever won the bill on that. Allow me to enlighten you if you haven't already known this..

Section 1: Intro (a variety of Verse and Chorus similarities in the 4x4 timing signature).

Section 2: Verse (4x bars which accompany fit-per-bar lyrics where at the end of the 2nd and the 4th bar only those two last words may rhyme).

Section 3: Chorus (a Pre-Chorus may be inserted beforehand if desired. Usually in the same format as the Verse. More emphasis is applied).

Section 4: Repeat Section 2 followed by Section 3 (Section 2 lyrics must vary from the previous).

Section 5: The Superpit (a 1-2 minute window where creativity and talent are concentrated and entirely consumed. Dedicated directly for the guitar. Other instruments are not welcome to be played beyond their standard course but keyboards may be eligible for an exemption).

Section 6: Repeat Section 4 (Section 2 is not mandatory, if applied lyrics must vary from the previous).

Section 7: Repeat Section 3 (The pouring of heart and soul is required by the vocalist as the lyrics are repeated at numerous intervals).

Section 8: Outro (attempt for a climax of Chorus similarities and then allow for an unexpected and abrupt finish, because after all we can't be assed making any further effort).

Well well well, it appears that "I Am The Storm" has conformed to about 95% of the minimum standard. How disappointing, how predictable, how obvious, how monotonous, and overall how boring. It doesnt matter how fast you are or how awesome your riffs sound, your songs will be no more than average if you follow this minimum standard proceedure.

So look at what Dream Theater have been doing in the last 2 years, apart from 1x album of new material they've been going on tour and recording their performances, then they sell those and it cost them nothing because the people who paid to see them live have practically paid to produce the live albums. They've released 12x full-length live albums in the last 2 years AND they've also released 6x full-length demo albums in that time. A demo is a low quality recording of a studio rehersal, not much cost in producing those but sucker fans buy them just because it's DT and DT are probably laughing all about it . This is a perfect example of exploitation.

Once a band becomes well known that's when it begins to fall because it's not about being awesome anymore, but rather to milk the fans instead. I reckon Redemption began to decline after "This Mortal Coil". Everything they released thereafter was nothing more than average material in my opinion. Perhaps that's why Ray Alder left shortly after, who knows.

To each their own, but for what it's worth, the new album has a song that's 8 and a half minutes, a song that's 12 minutes, and a song that's 14 minutes. I wouldn't say the album is 40 minutes of simple pop-song-structure writing!
(And while I personally prefer shorter albums usually, the album "proper" [excluding bonus tracks] is an hour, and the full experience with all bonus tracks is an hour 26 minutes. So at least you can say people get their money's worth, if that's how you define worth
