This is going to be a major album for my relationship with Sylosis - I came to love Cycle of Suffering, but Worship Decay and Heavy Is The Crown doubled down on the aspects of CoS that I found offputting, and Deadwood was also underwhelming. I'm not expecting a return to their pre-hiatus peak, but if this album ends up being a continued watering down of what they've been doing, then it might end up being the first album that I don't enjoy from them, which would be very disappointing

For me, the more I listen to Cycle of Suffering, the more I dislike it, although I still think it's a pretty solid album. These two tracks from the new record show a lot more variety already, to me at least. I don't think this will match Edge of The Earth or Monolith, but I feel it has the potential to improve on CoS and even Dormant Heart.

Sounds like quite the dilemma you have there! Too bad most of the bands that have released my favourite albums have just dropped off the face of the earth

Well, I'm kinda disappointed, can't lie. Sylosis have really stepped down since the hiatus, and I feel they are embrancing more and more what most bands do nowadays, while leaving behind what made their first 4 records so unique. In the past, I would define Sylosis as a form of thrash with complex melody. That complexity is lacking, sadly.
First listens, I actually think this is better than Cycle's, but I can see a lot of people hating this record.

Better than Cycle, but not by much. Goodbye, Sylosis...I guess

I like this less than CoS, but there are still some solid tracks. Will have to give this a few more listens to see if I like it more.

Too little thrash metal, too much metalcore.

I liked the album very much. It's true it feels they've made their songs more straighforward, less progressive but there are a lot of bangers here. Let's see how it holds the test of time.

The vocals sounded a little too close to metalcore for my liking.

Some good riffs here and there, but that's it. I think they have long lost their identity, it feels very generic.

I've only made it halfway. Unfortunately his time with Architects had bled through as I feared. His compositions have gotten simpler and simpler unfortunately... And metalcore is definitely not my thing

It sounds like Slipknot? Weird. Not a fan but it does have some good guitar work here and there.

No, it doesn't sound like Slipknot. That's a very strange comparison to make.

This one is a bit hard to dig for me. Found it more metalcore than thrash, and first part looks like regular. Second half is more interesting, specially last song. More reminiscences of Dormant Heart, which is a good thing. But i don't think this is a better album than CoS. But the drop of quality is more evident here, and they are approaching more into a generic direction

Disappointed, needs more thrash and noodles, and less metalcore vocals. It's a shame, they had a good thing going their first two albums, everything since has been pretty meh for me barring a few tracks. This is definitely my least favorite

I held off on listening to this for a few days following its release (which would have seemed inconceivable in the days I was buying signed copy pre-order bundles for EOTE and Monolith), since the comments here seemed to confirm my suspicious of how this album would be. Having listened to it, I have to say it's impressive that Sylosis managed to write a full album without a single song that grabs my attention (the closest they get is Judas or A Godless Throne); even CoS, which I have certain issues with, at least had Apex Of Disdain and the title track. I'll need to give it the requisite few listens to more fully work out my feelings towards it, but given that they released 3 of my all-time favourite records, and even CoS has ended up being probably my most-played album since its release despite the things I don't enjoy in it, it's very disappointing that they've come up with something that I can honestly see myself not revisiting after I've finished my review. Giving it a 7 for now, but can see that potentially going down to a 6

The entire intro of Deadwood could literally be a bonus track. Not a weird comparison at all.

Um. Where are the riffs??? One thing that always made this band outstanding is the variety of distinctive riffs. It's totally gone here.
It's still a listenable album, just not what you'd expect.

I ended up giving this one a spin more out of respect for their early works than out of any interest in their recent endeavors. It feels like they cranked up all the elements that made it hard for me to get into this band in the first place. Sure, the instrumentation is good or great at times, but the songwriting just isn't there.
