I mean, I do really like this album, so a re-recorded version does kinda sound cool to me.

I really liked the original Icon. Don't see the point in re-recordings, unless there was something very different or bad with the original (like the sound on Suffocation's "Breeding the spawn"), or the sounds changes completely.

From listening the record, in simple words, it's not a in-depth remake, more like a celebration of the original. Still gold.

100% agree. I don't see a point in rerecording a classic which already have good sound. Cavalera did that to Morbid Visions, but it had more sense as their debut suffered from terrible sound. In Paradise Lost case rerecording a debut would have much more musical sense than Icon. Seems like a cash grab to be honest. Sorry to write this because I am a big Paradise Lost fan. I will not be buying this record.

The band said this: "Our specific record deal around the time we signed for the Icon album meant we would never actually own the rights to our music or artwork, so going forward, to reissue the album ourselves for the 30th anniversary, it was necessary to re-record and completely re-do the album cover."
I guess it's understandable from their point of view, but I love the original Icon and own the original cd, and I am not interested in the slightest to listen to the re-recorded version.

I love original Icon and rated it 9. Part of the score is originality and while it was very original music back in 1995 worth a 9 it is 0 this time around which brings the score to down to 6. I will keep listening to the original version. I see what they mean and commercially maybe they even have a point, but musically this album does not make any sense.

The whole 'Gothtallica" thing drove me nuts, it was very distracting for me on several of their albums, Icon being one of them; do the vocals sound like James Hetfield this time around?

Given the ownership issue, I think this deserves a 9, just like I rated the original album. It still sounds original, yet there's some refinement I don't think add up much to the opus when compared to the first release, though it doesn't make it any worse. I admit I'm biased, for I'm a "loster" to the death lol

I've never listened to this band until this album (which isn't much of a starting point tbh) but I see the comparison and you're about right. I can't tell you in comparison to the original though.

I don't know, it's a "you win something, you lose something" situation. The original is one of my all time favourites, so material-wise nothing is changed. I feel that the original has this very unique Paradise Lost approach to British goth sound which is kinda gone with the new production. On the other hand, Nick has matured and he sounds more awesome here. Still can't rate this lower that the original, it's still great.

They could not license the recordings from their label, so instead of re-releasing the 30th anniversary edition, they've decided to re-record it. Not a huge difference between the recordings (most of the re recordings sound slick, of course), but it's actually a pretty good release.

Well, i listened to this once, and dont think i will often revisit it, the original one was an album that is part of me, and always will be, for it sounds like a demo, or kinda version where something is missing, might be the years passed, the memories the feelings i have buried in this timeless classic...

I like it. I always considered Icon second best PL album and this rerecording won't change it. There are parts of this recording I like better than original one and some that are much better in the original.
Icon 30 played all weekend in my house and I did not hear a word of complaint from my wife and her dislike of metal music equals my dislike of hip hop.

Icon was my first and last Paradise Lost album. I could never get into any other of their albums. They are usually too much of a bummer, not that Icon is a happy album, but at least it was catchy.
I'm not even gonna bother with this one though. I'm nostalgic enough of my teens, I don't want to go looking for any more thanks...
