The beggining of „Amethyst” with its spoken word vocals reminds me of Saturnus. Am I the only one?
The more I listen to the album the more I think it could be their best album to date. That’s saying something…

Saturnus: Big time. Both recitation delivery and (to an extent) instrumentally in between the explosions of music.
BUT----I didn't think this initially, and my mind still sways towards Agalloch. This is solely due to the harsh vocal style here. There is plenty of the harsh/recitation with Agalloch, too. Enough to maintain my initial comparative opinion.

Also, as no one* mentioned it before, the short films posted 8 days ago on YT are absolutely incredible!

Hey Jay, long time no see!
I'm thinking about giving this album a 10 too... I'll probably do it when my vinyl copy arrives

After many more listens, had to upgrade to a 10. No skips on this album for me and I actually like the interludes. Consensus seems to be mixed on the interludes but I love ambient/atmospheric parts and I feel like they help me get lost in the music.

I’ll be the first to point it out: There’s no way that 1 star rating is legit.

This album as a whole definitely grabbed me more than their others. I like quite a few tracks from their catalog, but none of their albums have ever made consistent rotation for me. This album, however, is super consistent. Winona, such a banger (there are a few others I like a lot too like Heathen and Amethyst). There's a lot of variability between tracks. Very warm BM though, so if that's not your thing
Edit: I really like this, minus the filler intermission tracks, it's fantastic beginning to end. Haven't given a 10 in forever

I don't like this one as much as I liked sunbather, new bermuda or ordinary corrupt human love. It's still a very strong album with the opening two songs being my favorites.

I was not familiar with them at all. Can't get enough of Doberman and Magnolia. Incredible. The rest... maybe it will click later. Maybe I'll understand the rest in the context of their discography better, but it will take time to dig into in properly, so. But it's a 9 for now. Lots of Alcest references, but still pretty much their own thing. The vocalist is insane, instantly one of my favorites.
