Listening to the latest single, I’m pleasantly surprised to find the clean vocals remain with the old vocalist returning. Sure they’re not as good (as with the screams) and the songwriting is a bit more basic, but certainly not as big of a dip in quality that I thought his return foreshadowed. Looking forward to this one.

Same vocalist as the last album isn't it?

Damn, I really love this. Probably my favourite since Proponent, perhaps even better than Proponent though I'll resist the urge to give in to recency bias for now and give it an 8.
Definitely their most 'melodeath' album they've done, especially with Carried by Delusion (their most melodic song to date?), Imperial and Wake Circling Above.
Love the Spanish-esque guitar in Dark Matter Dynamics, reminds me of Gray Matter Mechanics from Proponent. Though here I think it's done better since it underlines the whole song and doesn't just swap between Flamenco and tech death like Gray Matter did.
Also quite impressed with the little tidbits of Haynes' cleans we got (especially in the opening for Scythe), not quite as good as McShane in that regard but still welcome I thought.
I suspect this album won't be received as well as Damnum, it does seem to be an overcompensated pendulum swing back to their melodic side after their prog adventure in Damnum. But I'm very pleased by this album, it's hitting a Goldilocks zone between their melodicism and tech-death for me.

"Dark Matter Dynamics" is incredible, and most of the tracks are pretty good, solid release by a solid band.

Its a good album, but on first listen I am definitely missing the more prog influences that were on damnum. I'll give it a few more spins before deciding on a score.

Seems their foray into prog was merely a stint...which is rather disappointing; Damnum was their best record by far. That said, this definitely deserves the silver medal in their discog. I was pleasantly surprised to hear how much Haynes improved...his vocals on previous records really grated and I don't get that feeling this time around.

Never heard any of their previous stuff but i like what I'm hearing on this album. Not bad at all.

Long time fan ever since Fragments.
I might be in the minority in that I've always preferred Ezra to Riley. Riley did a great job, but Ezra gives me them God Particle vibes that set this band apart for me.
This new offering is a great mix of melodeath, prog and tech death and I'm loving every second of it.
The Swarm blew me away and it perfectly showcases what this monster band is capable of.
AOTY contender in my book

I prefer this album over Damnum a bit. The writing may not be as progressive and they didn't do much experimentation but it feels like no time is wasted and I wouldn't call any of this material lacking by any means. It's a mostly relentless ride that feels just long enough and is packed to the brim with excellent moments. Haynes stepped back into his spot very well and would be just fine if he did cleaning singing more often. I'd rather have the clean singing in their music be more sparse than it was on Damnum anyway so that's another reason why this one worked so well for me. Dark Matter Dynamics is one hell of a song.

They released a music video for Wake Circling Above, and it's actually Stancel that does the cleans on that song! Very impressed, I don't know if I've heard him sing before on a song

Solid album, none of the songs are really grabbing my attention like they did on the last album but I'd rank it above their earlier stuff still. The second half is definitely stronger.

Actually this album surprised me a lot .... I've listened to it twice and I already think it's better than all its predecessors.

A strong second half definitely. World have loved some more variations in the album, still a stellar piece of tech death work.

I initially thought Adrian Bellue was a misspelling of Adrian Belew, but damn, I dig that guy's style. Nothing in common with Belew except the pronunciation and the freakish talent
