Wow. I used to be such a fan of this band growing up, but this album is PAINFUL to listen tonow. Horrid production, and terrible song writing (wtf is the drummer doing?!?). It feels so loose and spastic.

I don't think their early years were ever considered to be anything special, but I should do some revisiting of my own. In my teens I was especially partial to Serenity in Fire and In the Arms of Devastation. Not sure if either will hold up after not listening to them for ~7 years.

I think this was like a second development phase for them. Sylvain left who was in charge of concepts and ideas for the music, they were seemingly dropped by Nuclear Blast as well, so they had to reinvent themselves on a budget. Luckily the second attempt was much better.
