The perfect culmenation of their early and later sounds....still, plenty aggressive, but with better melodies than earlier releases....it is divine. Every release after is too soft, imo.

While listening to the title track recently I suddenly noticed/realized it's about The Dark Tower...

Their first well-produced album.
I like the production on "Follow the Blind", maybe I find it better than the production on "Imaginations from the other Side". But yeah, this is pretty well produced/executed.
The title track is godlike
Also props to "Journey through the Dark", such riffing.

Some great songs on this one! German speed/power metal as the Branch Davidians intended it themselves.
this is not speed, real speed was 1tha nd second album only, rest is pure PM, even epic touch not as some cheasy Freedom call

This, IFTOS and ANATO are the 3 contenders - NIME cannot get close. Time what is time is a blistering opener, the bard's song is great for a band anthem, and the title track is extraordinary

Over the course of many years, I have come to the firm conclusion that this is BG's best album by far. I think Nightfall and Imaginations have thier moments, but overall, both those albums are quite overrated and the songwriting on both of them is rather mediocre. BG and Iced Earth are the only power metal bands I like and this album still gets the occasional listen from me. Listening to it again as I type this and yep, it's still pretty good and very good when it comes to the acoustic moments.

Yes, this is their best.
Highlights: Journey Through The Dark and the title track.
OMG, back in the 90s I have really been a huge fan of this band....

An impressively consistent release. For me, there are no standout songs as all are fantastic.

Just another near perfect BG album, my second favourite behind Imaginations, they really could do nothing wrong during this time.
As usual it's hard to find a song I dislike, another very consistent album, with excellent songwriting from start to finish. Thw main highlights for me are "Theatre Of Pain", "The Quest For Tanelorn", "Time What Is Time", and of course Both The Bard song's.

First 3 albums are better, this is barely speed metal anymore. But it has good songs, I only dislike The Quest For Tanelorn.

What a majestic journey this album is! Acoustic guitar melodies tie all songs together and create an illusion that you're like a character on the cover, sitting in front of a campfire, listening to Bard's timeless stories about cruel demons and clever wizards. Every song here is glorious, but if I had to choose: "Journey Through The Dark", "Theatre Of Pain", the title track and magnificent "In The Forest" would be my top picks. It's a masterpiece, the best Guardian's album and one of my favorite albums of all time.

I could listen to Theater of Pain forever.
I could as well. When the verse evolves - especially the 2nd time - the combination of power chord chugs, Hansi’s voice, and synths creates one of the catchiest moments in metal. That song is truly special, as is the album.
