According to Orthodox Easter, Christ will be resurrected by the end of this specific week, springtime unfolds its wings in a shy way, slowly but steadily, the flowers bloom, the butterflies dance and "The Vampire From Nazareth" is about to be awakened. Well, my dear friends, this is the most appropriate moment of the year for a new Septicflesh album.

This album may be boring - and it assuredly is - but the comment thread still brings me pleasure over a decade later

Yeah this album thread is just hilarious. Looks like it was an absolute warzone in 2011.

Edit: oh shit I started a new page

Lemma continue that page. I'm probably gonna start another shitstorm, but this was brutal for me. This is actually my new number one death metal album of all time, a decision I made about a half-hour ago. It freaked me out, wowed me, made me bang my head, and it inspired me to check out their live album. And I found it extremely varied, like Speticflesh took slight cues from Dark Tranquility, Nile and even Blut Aus Nord.

I was there, 3000 years ago... Erhm, I mean. I was a well-seasoned metalstormer when this album came out. And I loved the shitstorm on this thread with all the fanboys. But the fact is that I never gave this album a full listen until today. I listened to the single "The Vampire From Nazareth" when it dropped and I remember loving it when it came out and I still think it is a brilliant song. Seth vocals remain fairly unique in just how powerful, brutal yet elegant they sound. Anyway, back then I was mostly listening to black, doom, post-metal and sludge. So I was leaving most death metal as well as anything with "symphonic" as an adjective. So no wonder I only listened to the first song and said "nice, ok I'll check it out someday" but never did.

Communion is without a doubt the better album. This album is more bombastic, epic but honestly a little cheesy. Communion on the other hand is so much darker and aggressive, plus it relies more on the riffs than the symphonics. But it's not bad that The Great Mass is cheesy. I appreciate the distinction between both albums. Both have a clear identity and work for different moods. I would love to hear this stuff as part of a soundtrack to an epic film. I think the one thing that drags it down are the high-pitched clean vocals which really elevate the cheese factor.
