Being a major part of the histories of Borknagar and Arcuturus, while gaining some mainstream cred during his time with Dimmu Borgir, if you've been into black metal of any sort over the past 20 years you've probably heard this man's voice somewhere. ICS Vortex's first solo effort is one that can be very polarizing, but time has been kind to it.

Weird, don't people love this guy? Why isn't this getting more attention?

From what I can tell, it's post black metal with power metal vocals. Strange but interesting.

I am not in to black metal (I've tried, believe me), but this album is more progressive rock than anything else (with a little avantgarde twist). I am just on my first listening round so I am not sure how I feel about this album yet.

Wow...not generally my kinda thing, but this sounds really cool and different...I hope it gets the rating it deserves, and people don't just vote it down because its not what they had expected/hoped for.

The first or second time I ve' listened to it I didn't like it so much. But since the third listening I love it. When I listen to this album it comes to my mind bands like "System of a Down", "Satyricon", "Blind Melon", "Tool", "Katatonia", "Mastifal (Arg.)" and maybe some more that I do not remember right now. Obviously it reminds me in certain parts of some tracks. For me, this album does not belong to any genre in particular, but it is a combination of many. What I could remark of the album is the last song. It is very particular and strange, and I do not know if it fits right in the album. In spite of that I like it. For me this album is a 9,5/10. The vocals of Vortex are not from this planet, I think. I mean, his vocals are outstanding, obviously. On the other hand I know he has also the gift of doing harsh vocals very well, and that's what I think this album should have had. Predominant clean Vortex vocals and some harsh also performed by him should do a 10/10.

Really disappointed with this release. Had high hopes for it, but really didn't enjoy any of the tracks all too much.

Yeah, I usually love post and experimental metal, but this just doesn't work very well. It tries to be many things at once, and not in a good way. If it weren't for Vortex's vocals, this would be below average release.

Gulp.... I'm just so... Not impressed by this. I'm a huge fan of everything Simen did with Dimmu, Borknagar and Arcturus and I guess my expectations were too high, expecting something as Borknagar's Archaic Course, and again I've learnt a valuable lesson that history cannot be rewritten, recomposed, resung, replayed and rerecorded. I'll give Storm Seeker some more listens, but as far as I've got with it, I'm only impressed by Vortex's vocals (as usual).

Personally Storm Seeker is a very good album... you do have to listen to it more than once and understand it is on similar wavelengths as his work with Arcturus and Lamented Souls, and it is far from the work he's done with Dimmu and Borknagar, and if that's what you were expecting than Storm Seeker is not the album for you... I do have to agree that it is not the greatest experimental metal release but I'd say just give it time and if the Metal Gods allow a follow up album it could be spectacular.

The songs themselves are okay, but I still like the album I suppose. That's how great his vocals are for me!

Good album. Some of the vocal lines annoyed me though. It seemed like he had written the lyrics before the music and was determined to make them fit the music. (Not sure if that makes sense, but I worked a vocalist who used to do that and it drove me mad.)

A very good album showing a new side of Mr. Hestnæs. I cannot really understand those of you, guys, who having expected sth similar to DB, Arcturus or Borknagar ended up being disappointed. Come on, he will do Borknagar-like music with the band now, as he has rejoined, Arcturus is also active again, and Dimmu... well I think he exploited his capabilities in that band well enough, everything else would be just self-repeating, had he recorded a similar stuff.
So why on Earth should he do the same music on his solo album that he can produce at his other bands as well? I cannot get it but I respect your opinions nontheless.
Storm Seeker surprised me as well but in my opinion this is precisely what he needed to do; put seriousness aside a bit, and do a cool, easy, more positive, yet still remarkably Vortex-trademark album. Nothing fancy, nothing outstanding, just pure enjoyable music bringin some new, fresh taste into his discograph. On my top10 this year.

This album really sounds very different from what I expected. And that's precisely the reason I like it.
It doesn't sound like Arcturus, Borknagar or Lamented Souls and that makes it fresh for my ears. And the title track is one of the most beautiful songs I heard in 2011.

It's not bad of an album, some of the songs are "meh", but some are really fucking cool. The title track was one of the best songs I heard from 2011. Kind of patchy overall, but still a good listen.

A bit prommsiing in beginning later went in some modern Arcturus way, weird, ehhh its 50-50 but ICS is good songer , he always should use clean vox in all bands he is in.
