On no, nowhere near. They've very decent but lack the power of the 'cocke. They've just aligned themselves similarly in location, dress sense in style to a reasonable extent.

we'd be utter idiots not to take this as a compliment, whatever the sentiment! thank you.

it's lofty praise to suggest that we could replace one of the more significant death metal exports from the UK in the last 10 years, i personally wouldn't want to think that akercocke are now a closed book, let alone needing to be replaced at all. however, reading that someone might go near saying that can only make me want to push as hard we can to mean as much to britain's extreme metal scene and/or a satisfying tonic for those who find themselves hungry for 'cocke.

we'd obviously be bloody stupid to deny that they've influenced us hugely (they're good friends as well as points of reference), but we like to think that we're pretty different from them in some respects. as you say, we're nowhere near as powerful as them, it would take a lot to pack the punch that they spent years refining. i'm intrigued to know what you mean by alignment of location though!

right then, and so to work. with any luck we'll have some new material ready for release towards the close of the year. thank you again for the mention.

PS. the talanas page is apparently 'hidden', does it need staff attention or something? 'elp us, we're lorst...

We can make it visible if the profile is complete (all information accurate and up-to-date).

Send me a PM with any changes/updates that need to be made, otherwise just let me know if the profile is ready to be activated and I'll make sure it happens.

I'd like to say this is straight our of the school of Akercocke, but i think Talanas have a slightly more progressive edge than Akercocke. The riffs that Talanas use are technical, but not necessarily that of traditional death metal-in fact, its the vocals that make them a progressive 'Death Metal' band, and not just a Progressive metal one. The album itself i think is mostly impressive, save for some minor flaws regarding the vocals and guitar work. Roll on their next album, if there is one.

Poor cocke ripoff

Certainly neither a ripoff nor poor at that. This is a proggier Akercocke at most

I saw these guys in my local club a few years back. I originally went to see a friend's band who were supporting them, I'd never heard of Talanas before and was completely blown away by their performance. So much so that I ordered this album the following day.

While they aren't quite up to the level of some of my favourite Progressive Death Metal bands, they certainly have the potential to make great music. It's such a shame they haven't put anything out since their last EP (Asylum).

Also, their frontman has a great sense of humour and makes for a great live act
