How many bands from Bosnia and Herzegovina do you know? Exactly. After Oblivion made some heads turn (including mine) in 2011 with their Vultures EP, and deservingly so. Three songs of technical thrash with interesting ideas in all of them, albeit with a certain dose of repetition. Add the vocals that bring back warm memories of Chuck Schuldiner, and that makes for a pretty good start indeed. All the band had to do next was to listen to some other genres of metal or music in general, come up with some fresh fusions and record a mind-boggling debut full-length packed with fast riffs, shredding, and modernly technical transitions, and that would be it. Yeah, I made it sound a bit too easy; however?

Are you a diehard Death fan? Have you found yourself wishing "Evil Chuck D" had never died so there were more albums after TSoP? Have you maybe thought to yourself it would be kinda nice if Death could find a "replacement" for Mr. Schuldiner (both vocally and instrumentally)? Well if so, then this is probably going to be your new favorite album in the last decade... \m/

Agreed, but I think while the formula they used worked for an EP, it would not be sufficient for a whole album --> a little variety and innovation needed not start sounding repetitive.

Depends on how long the album is, lol. I felt there wasn't enough of what's on the EP (way too short), so maybe if the LP was like in the 30 minute range with that kind of stuff I'd be good...

Well I just bought the album from their label's bandcamp page. It's only about 31 mins and it's pretty BA. Very memorable riffs for such a technical album, it's exactly as I was hoping for; a longer version of the EP but not overly longer.

Coincidentally this album is on the Top 2012 list of 2 guys that live in the same city...and neither of us knows each other...

Same. I actually don't mind a bit of early Death, but later stuff... nah.

Well, I'm not a TSoP fanboy myself but I didn't think it was a bad album. I love this album however and the TSoP reference is mostly in the vocals to be honest, I'd still say give it a chance just in case.

Edit: I forget that so many people seem to have a such bad opinion of TSoP, so I changed the Staff Pick to just say "Death fanboy" since the comparison is mostly in the voice. Maybe people will be less likely to disregard this impressive album without the "TSoP" comparison...

I'm a huge fan of Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore, but the rest of Death's discography ranges from decent to shit.

Understandable. I actually like them but I have always felt they were a love/hate thing about Death (like King Diamond's vocals).

Only for later albums not on the early stuff when he still sounded good.

I like Dani in the earlier albums but later on he got really bad. Adnan (this vocalist) doesn't sound like Donald Duck on helium, he is way more intellible than donald Duck...

If only this band had a single shred of originality in them... If I want late Death albums, I'll listen to them, I don't need them redone. And not so expertly to be honest. The drummer wouldn't even be able to pass for Christy's or Hoglan's roadie, for example. Still, there's potential here, but it's overshadowed by utter Death worship. If these guys dare have their own opinions and try to make their own music, they might turn out good eventually.

TSoP and Symbolic are the highlight of Death's opuses imho...the other albums aren't nearly as well thought out melodically or structurally.

Years ago there was a band caled Exence with the same thing for Death, except that they were a bit too thrashy and less inspired. Checking AO right now.

What I feared would happen happened: the full-length sounds very samey. In addition to that the stand-out tracks are the three tracks from the EP...
