When "For Broken Words", Construct's opener, was first previewed, reactions were mixed, to say the least - and that's only natural given the weird, mid-tempo nature of this song. Then we got a classical Dark Tranquillity song ("The Science Of Noise", a future live anthem to be sure), and a mellow song with clean vocals ("Uniformity"). Varied album? Indeed! So, how's the rest? Well, screaming 'masterpîece' is obviously a case of blind fanboyism, but talking about 'pure crap' is totally a prejudiced, off-the-mark vision; as usual (and especially with an album like this one) the answer lies in the silence in between (ah ah).

Best album since DD.

PS: For me The Gallery is the best thing in the history of music.

Greetings from Brasil.

"What Only you Know."

IMO this song is already a masterpiece.

Indeed it takes a little time getting into it, I find it different from what they have done before but I like this and love the moddy tracks miwing clean and hars vocal like tracks 6 and 8. Will definitely buy it when it comes out

The current score of 8.4 isn't really all that high....especially considering there are only 22 votes....it will most likely be under 8 by the time there are 75 votes (fanboys are usually the first to vote)

When I made the comment, it was an 8.7. Still doesn't excuse Omnium Gatherum having an 8.6 with a ton of votes. I don't get the appeal of this genre at all. There are some decent releases, but mostly this genre is just cluttered with similar bands making hollow, sugary music.

fair enough that you don't like melodeath .. but Omnium Gatherum's release does not sound 'similar' to any other releases to me .. just my opinion though

I love DT but I wouldn't call their music melodeath. It's not aggressive enough to be labelled any death kind of music. Yet this album is good, different from We Are The Void as it takes a bit longer to be appreciated. Got a question tho : bonuses are labelled as USA bonuses, does it imply that the european CD won't feature these bonuses ? Yet I don't mind much as I usually buy my CDs from the USA, the prices in France are just f*cking indecent !

Care to name some of these "decent" releases? Just wondering cause I partially agree with what you wrote there, with the exception that this genre has produced some of the best metal albums ever.

99% of melodeath has nothing to do with death metal, even when it is aggressive. Usually it's just sped up Iron Maiden with harsher vocals. That being said, the bands are still called melodeath because that's what the style is called.

I'm with you on that one.
Metalstorm definitely seems to have a bias towards melodeath.

Omnium gatherum are pretty unique and the latest two albums are stunning!

They're the textbook example of average melodeath.

Just mediocre...one of those obvious top 20 albums, but not because of quality but because of their massive following. Honestly I was a massive fan of melo death up until it just became boring and I grew out of it. Maybe other will grow out of it too and realize stuff like this isnt anything to drool over - just boring and predictable. Might have liked this when I was in high school.

Ok, roger that. See you in 2016, Dark Tranquillity.

Apparently those who can be considered main songwriters in DT are going through a some kind of writer's block, according to a Finnish journalist. I can definitely hear it on this one, even when Brändström's work is more prominent.

Amazing album! Only loses to Cult of Luna's Vertikal this year. There isnt one bad song, and there are a ton of songs to be added to the classics list!

Also, Stanne's clean vocals are always a wonder to hear!

To be honest, I've stopped trying to put labels on bands for long time, it's useless and too complex these days All i'm saying here is that this album is growing on me and I like it as much as I like all other DT albums from the Projector era (meaning I'm not fond of their brutal times tho I listen to brutal music as wel

A very weird comparision, they're totally different.
If you like movie soundtrack then go for Cult of Luna, they're too experimental for the time being.

Of course, I like Chuck Schuldiner's style more than Bach's and Jordan Rudess's playing than Beethoven's.

It's pretty good for a "melodeathenburg" album. (nice one, !.J.O.E.E.!) It just doesn't feel fresh when you are getting deeper into the depths of music and you leave the whole "primitive Thrash/Death/Black" period behind a little.
