Should I shake his hand, or not? This was a hard one to guess, with a name like Job For A Cowboy and an album entitled "Doom" what could I expect? Doom Metal? Folk Metal? Country Music? This was cleared to me after the first spin of the album, these kids (yeah, they're still in high school) were playing a popular (and infamous at the same time) genre: Metalcore. Read more ›› |

This is a great band to headbang to, I may not like Deathcore too much, but these guys turned into Death Metal back in 2007 and now they're as great as ever!!

I will always hate this E.P for starting the worst movement in metal history. And the music on it sucks also.

I love this album, it's really not even "Deathcore", it's really sludgy death metal with a lot of breakdowns, and probably one of the heaviest albums of all time. What followed after it, though, was the worst shit i've ever heard, band after band made from just angry noise, all the heavy metal in it was gone. It just makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Never blame these guys, its not the first time its happened, and it wont be the last.

11.05.2012 - 11:00 Written by travesfenriswolf on 11.05.2012 at 10:47 JFAC was one of them who heavily followed angry noises with excessive of breakdowns but from past two releases they shaped it up pretty well. If they keep continuing their records like this, it will be among of the big center of attraction in deathcore scene. With mixing up sludgy stuff, less down vociferating angry vocals, breakdowns and "ending stupid nowhere drumming saga in JFAC" it now looks pretty good to have a more few spins too. Glad they change drastically but needs more polish.

08.04.2014 - 14:58 Written by deadone on 08.04.2014 at 08:29 Negative, Ghostrider. This is deathcore. It's nowhere near as down tempo, groovy, slamming or non-technical as slam. It has way more in common with BDM than it does slam, and that argument would certainly make more sense than arguing this is slam. This EP is an early form of the genre, before a million and one Hot Topic kids bastardized the genre into it's more popular form today. To call this album a slam album is just hilariously ridiculous, and kind of cute. I'll admit, I just got into slam and brutal death metal only a couple years ago, and before that I could hardly distinguish between the 2 and deathcore (because of the breakdowns). But I got really heavy info the 2 genres and listened to a shit load of slam and BDM bands, and now I can most certainly tell the difference between all 3 of them very easily. JFAC's Doom EP is one of the earliest forms of the genre, and the band is widely regarded as one of the early progenitors of the genre, alongside All Shall Perish. It's a shame they abandoned the style in favor of the more generic and boring death metal path they switched to with their debut.

Written by deadone on 08.04.2014 at 08:29 JFAC do NOT play slam. Slam is music the likes of Abominable Putridity, Condemned, or Septycal Gorge.

08.04.2014 - 20:15 Rating: 8 Written by Alex F on 08.04.2014 at 18:44 I'd question Abominable Putridity. That to me sounds more like BDM. Slam is generally quite mindless and almost solely focused on slamming. AP not so much, and most of their "slams" are actually quite like deathcore breaks in the sense they are played in a staccato manner with empty time between the notes. At least their second album that is, never listened to the first. And JFAC is quite clearly deathcore, it doesn't sound like even BDM imo. More like a mixture of metalcore, death metal and grindcore, which was a distinct quality of early 2000s deathcore. I also find it quite weird how Deadone linked that article, yet that article says that slam death, unlike deathcore doesn't use stop-start dynamics heavily, yet the extremely prevailent use of stop-start dynamics and the WAY they are used is the primary metalcore element in this album.

08.04.2014 - 22:01 Written by Uldreth on 08.04.2014 at 20:15 I'd have to agree here, there is a little slam stuff here and there, but I would agree that album is more prevalently a BDM album. Quote: Didn't mean to insinuate that I believe the album sounds like BDM, just that arguing it does would make more sense than arguing it's a slam album. Quote: I also thought that was odd, as if he didn't even read the article himself, and is just ignorant of the obvious (to a seasoned listener) stylistic differences between slam and deathcore, just like I was a couple years ago.

09.04.2014 - 00:11 Rating: 8 Written by psykometal on 08.04.2014 at 22:01 I know what you meant, that wasn't a comment against you. Btw there is that older comment of yours in this thread, regarding that, do you know their demo they made before Doom? The production on this sucks and it is massive Dahlia worship, but this is probably my favourite JFAC song. Nontheless I stand by my 8 for this EP but imo if they rerecorded this song for the EP, it would have resulted in positive.

09.04.2014 - 01:03 Written by Uldreth on 09.04.2014 at 00:11 Nah. I very rarely bother with demos, especially early band demos, due to the high probability of shitty production.

09.04.2014 - 01:53 Rating: 8 Written by deadone on 09.04.2014 at 01:13 Genres evolve over time, And metalcore is not a specific genre really, it is more like an umbrella term. Originally there was crossover which was like old school hc mixed with thrash. Then hc evolved as well, slowing the sound down and making the music a bit more structured and intricate. At the time some hardcore bands started playing with metal tones, metal levels of technicality and some thrash-esque riffs in addition to their hardcore riffs. We call that metalcore and includes stuff like Integrity, Earth Crisis, Unbroken, etc. Some of these started playing in a very spastic, chaotic manner, with many time signature manipulations, taking tons of influence from grindcore and we call those bands mathcore and examples include Converge, Deadguy, Botch, Norma Jean, The Chariot, Johnny Truant, SikTh, Architects etc. Then some bands started adding melodic hardcore and elements of post-hardcore to their sound, we don't have a specific name for this, but this is a pretty populous sub-type of metalcore. It was pioneered by Shai-Hulud, 7 Angels 7 Plagues and Misery Signals and other example bands would be Life In Your Way, Counterparts, For The Fallen Dreams, While She Sleeps, Hundredth etc. Some bands made an organic fusion with a more evolved style of post-hardcore. This was mainly done by Poison The Well, Hopesfall, Beloved and Thrice, and this is what resulted in most of the "scene" metalcore, even though the originators were quite high quality bands that had nothing to do with the later traversty. Some bands from the mathcore crowd decided to play similiarly abrasive and chaotic music but slow it down tune deeper and use noisy distortions, taking influence from sludge, whic his already a hardcore/metal fusion. We tend to call those bands noisecore or sometimes "sludgecore". Exampels include Will Haven, Black Sheep Wall as well as post-metal bands before they started using post-rock, such as early albums of Neurosis, Isis or Cult of Luna. Some sludge/metalcore bands decided to take the leap post-metal bands did when they incorporated post-rock and play a sort of post-metal/metalcore hybrid. There is no established name for that but bands include Amia Venera Landscape, Devil Sold His Soul, Rinoa, Trenches, Hands, Everything In Slow Motion etc. In the late 90s a stlye of metalcore also started that took elements from previous incarnations of the genre and infuse it with gothenburg metal and swedish (melodic) death metal. This style was mainly done by Prayer For Cleansing, Unearth and Diecast. We call this melodic metalcore and when THIS got further infused with brutal death metal and more swedish dm, we call this deathcore. Despite this huge ass list, tons of these sub-directions are related. Mathcore and noisecore are closely related. The melodic hardcore-influenced type sometimes also use gothenburg-ish melometalcore riffings, but they have a more prevailent hardcore basis. The post-hc influenced type also influenced melodic metalcore a lot. Noisecore and "post-metalcore" is sometiems very similiar. Since this is super off-topic I'll leave it at this but that's about metalcore basically.

Still, if I'll have the time I might get around it some time. *post-quote correction fixed here as well by a psykotic being
